rustrocket
i have been busy trying to install pics of my engine swap. it seems my pics are to large for the forum to handle. the basic project is a 5.3 vortec v-8 out of an 06 yukon with 6000 mi. on it. so far the motor is mounted the cross member modified the transmission installed the tunnel is modified and the roll bar is welded in. i am modifing the front end to be front steer with a rack. the suspension will also go under the knife with bearings where the bushings used to be and coil over conversion. this car is a rustrocket and has lived up to the name with the floors nearly falling out and the bolt having to be cut from the car. has anyone got an idea which computer will run this engine best? i'm torn between megasquirt and painless. love to show pics but not sure how. will update as the project progresses. site
I'm assuming you are going to clean up and replace all the rusted out stuff?
Eirewolf
i think someone makes an intake manifold for that engine so you can carb it. then you would not have to worry about fuel injection anything.
Technology
LOL, carbs. I think someone makes a plug-n-play ecu for that engine and it's a big name manufacturer. it's called GM! Amazing to think that you could just plug it right in and it would work perfectly. Here's what you do, from the same place you got the engine, get a wiring harness for the engine and the ecu, install engine, wire the harness, plug in the ecu, and drive away. Don't go to a carb. Please.
Scotty Dont
come on guys your are going to run him off rust rocket send some pics to me mrhibb@yahoo.com and i will host them
craig87
damn i hate to agree with technology but the GM computer will be your best bet and the harness should be very easy to mod. I have got a few standalones up and running and the factory computer is just a better choice.

patra_is_here
well if you want more power and better mileage fuel injection is better than carbs. end of story. if you took two identical motors, and tuned one with carbs, and tuned the other with fuel injection, you're going to get more power from the fuel injected motor. I would fuel inject my lawn mower if i got board enough.

rustrocket
I e-mailed mr.hibb with pics and he said he would host them. hope they give an idea what I am doing. I think they will . I also want info on ecu's that are better for turbo vs super charging. the painless harness can come with a cam. the gm can be controled by laptop. megasquirt can also be controled by laptop. I want to know if anyone has info that will make the case for either one.

craig87
if sds makes one for your car the computer is great and a heck of alot quicker to tune then haltech or megasquirt. haltech is your best bet if your bleeding money.
patra_is_here
that must be why all major forms of racing use.......... carbs. and by major forms of racing you're probably refering to those established long before the advent of reliable fuel injection
rustrocket
not bleeding money just willing to wait for the good stuff. i saw haltec but don't know anything about them other than the obvious. i like the gm version but you have to buy hacking software to do the work. still not sure need more info. plenty of mods left to do before i get to the wiring. thanx for the input. :character0269:
