2JZ Swap

Looking to start another project. I have been reading as there is a lot of great information here and a few other places. My first question is, what is the best source for a 2JZ engine? I see them all day long on ebay from JDM, just not sure if anyone else has gone that route. Thanks for any advice. TT

Motor came in yesterday afternoon. Looks like crap... all of the coil connectors came apart in my hands as I removed them. Going to get a valve job, arp head studs, cam gears and better head gasket just to be safe. This will be a long term project. I dont plan on posting every detail along the way here as its been very well documented by others already. I will post pics of items I had questions on tho just to fill in the gaps for those thinking about doing this in the future. Going to order motor mounts from vettkiller this week. Thanks

I got it from JDM Engine Corp in Richardson, TX. Mainly the coil connectors are all that I have had issue with. Easy fix. I was going to pull the head and get it rebuilt but after pulling the valve covers and seeing how clean the valve train was I changed my mind. Importwarrior, you are correct. I have already ordered several items from driftmotion. Good prices http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps6a9f1ec8.jpg

If you plan on staying auto go ahead and get the 2jz. Its worth the few hundred bucks up front to get it. vettekiller sells motor mounts so you can go that route. You'll need to fab a trans mount and get a driveshaft. Other than that its just splicing and dicing!

Been a slow process up to this point. Been taking care of some family obligations. Here are a few updated pics from this afternoon. Going to run a PT67, which should easily get me 450-500hp. Cleaned up some items, painted others and replaced some as well. I have been using driftmotion for most of my ordering but this manifold was definitely a mistake. This is their cheap ebay type manifold...I had to modify both the T4 flange (cut it off and angle it) and the 50mm waste gate flange had to be cut and shortened. Also, the bolt holes on the left side of the head had to be drilled out and reamed in order for it to bolt on. Hopefully it holds up as I cannot justify paying 1000-1600 for name brand mani. Also had the intake painted wrinkle black. Will get that installed this week and post up some pics. Lastly, got an R154 trans, shifter, clutch assy and ds in a few weeks ago. Will be picking up an 87 with 6bolt rear and 9" rears next week. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zpsb898f80f.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps5c564e81.jpg

Hey jtmuncher. Just to give you some reassurances on that exhaust manifold. My buddy had the same one and had to cut and angle it just like you did. He went 2 years at over 1000 hp with it and no problems. He actually made 1200hp before he went to a new one! Edited by turbojeeper

The motor mounts were 220 shipped if I remember correctly. As for the manifold, that is good to know. I almost gave up on it several times. I believe it will be fine now. Have a few updates...put on my down pipe, oil feed line kit, fuel rail and intake. Also got a look at the recipient of this motor just a few hours ago. Its an 87 that has been sitting uncovered in this same spot for the last 7 years. It might look like its in bad shape and it is...there are a few dents one of the front driver's side fender and one on the qtr panel. The front fender can be replaced and the rear qtr panel will be a challenge and learning experience for me. Honestly, I like the way the paint is faded. It looks like matt black to me. That stuff on the hood and roof isn't rust, its a mixture of sap and dirt that seemed would come off with a good scrubbing. It will also come with a good set of 9" rims and a 6-bolt rear. It has all the original interior pcs and sunroof plus it only reads 77k miles on it. Price was great and its only 30 minutes away from me. On to the pics...http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps3735b526.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps324d7a54.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zps68e02c1b.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zpsf04ad8c3.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zpsccdbc010.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v440/leche1103/null_zpse14019cd.jpg
