damn.... I wish I had money for a rebuild. I'm an RX7 guy, obviously, but even I know a Star/Quest this beautiful is a rare thing. You really should finish it yourself, or sell it whole at the very least.

Can you list mods, milage, any problems, etc. here? I'm not on the 2.6litre website. Any interest in trade for an 87 Mazda RX-7, with rebuilt engine, swapped transmission, and plenty of other stuff?
  4. linky to original thread? or proper description/pics of car in this thread?
  5. Isn't finding aftermarket wheels for these cars a complain? I mean, don't you have front offsets of like +17 and rear offset of -2 or somethin?
  6. I'm praying that TWC is right! ...and why'd you guys get rid of a barf smiley?
  7. ^I'm surprise no one picked up on that and flamed me for it. hahaha
  8. To clarify, when I say "cheap", I mean "relatively inexpensive in the long run." Being an rx7 guy, I know the dangers of not doing things the right way. But even so, some modifications are inherently better at providing power-per-dollar than others. Let me give an example, though. If I can gain 30hp to the wheels by changing the turbo to another turbo that I can buy (in good condition) for $500, or I can gain the same 20hp by boring and stroking the engine for $2500, I'd rather upgrade the turbo.
  9. Cool. I just found the FAQ, so I'll start taking in what I can from there. I'm new to turbocharged cars, and don't even know for sure if I'm getting a Starion yet, but want to find out as much as I can in as short a time as possible. For now, I'm trying to compare and contrast potential performance with the potential performance of my RX7, and looking into trying to trade. I'm used to a 2-seater car, and figure I can probably get the weight down by a few percent by removing just the rear seats, and maybe shave an extra couple percent of the weight by doing an AC removal. As for the ECU, how much HP might one see before needing to change to a standalone? Also, glad to here you guys are not quite as vicious as us RX7 people here, and thanks for all the help Fanta. seems like you're talking me through about every question I ask on here
  10. I know you guys probably get this question from new member all of the time, but I've had trouble finding such a thread in the FAQ, so I'll take the bait and ask the n00bish question. What is the least expensive, fastest, and least difficult way to increase the performance of a Starion (specifically talking an 86 ESi-R widebody)? Obviously AC and interior removal will help decrease weight and is a free modification. Is a good wheel/tire package usually high on a priority list? or swapping in a larger turbo? or a catback exhaust? While I'm at it, how does the Starion ECU take to modifications? is running an aftermarket computer necessary with very little modification, or does the stock ECU adapt to light to moderate changes? *edit* by the way, I want to avoid pissing off regular forum members and mods/admins as best as my new self possibly can; Is this the appropriate section for this, or do you have a different section for such questions?
  11. Make sure it has a title (even if it's a salvage title, which it may likely be). You don't wanna buy it if you can't drive it on the street, unless you're looking for a dedicated track car, obviously. Otherwise, if you have the money (which it sounds like you do) $300 isn't that much; if you give up on it, you could probably sell it for at least as much in another year. I used to dream of driving one of those, but ended up with an FC3S RX7 instead.
  12. Well, in light of this, are there any quick, easy turbo swaps for these cars?
  13. Interested in trade for a 1987 Mazda RX7? is has a newly rebuilt engine, newer transmission, 1 year old paint job, 17" Enkei wheels, a test pipe into a Borla catback, and plenty of other work. GREAT fun daily driver, and probably runs a high 15 second quarter mile (though I don't race it; it's just a fun DD. stock is 16.5 in the quarter mile.) I spent upwards of $6k on this car, including 1k for the shell, 3.5k for the engine, 600 for the tranny, 1.2k for paint, 700 for wheels/tires (tires have a lot of life left), and various other maintainance. I have receipts for everything, I believe.
  14. I apologize in advance if this is one of the more redundant questions you guys get, but I'm having trouble finding a technical/basic mods FAQ. Is it possible to do a direct swap of a 14b turbo onto an 86 Starion ESi-R? If not, what modification is needed? How much power would this turbo be good for at a normal 8-11PSI?
