Turbo Timer Harness Complete Information

Most turbo timers have a harness you can use to plug stright in to the factory wiring, no cutting or splicing anything. Un plug the connector and plug teh two ends where they go, some timers i.e. HKS Type 1, And the newer Greddy's I belive have mroe then this that usualy run to the coil because they use a tach signal to allocate how much time is required.

I've heard teh question asked as to what happens really.  I can only vouch for the "old school" HKS timer, And I think Chip was runnign a Greddy,  The leave teh car COMPLETELY running, yet allow you to lock the doors and walk away.  As with my timer: My factory alarm will not arm itself with the car running, But I don't know how many of you pay attention to teh factory alarm, it only works if they open teh hood, a door or the trunk...

I will post as I source the information for further installs, such has the hard wire methods for each timer asked.  I know there are a few.  If you read this and would liek to put your info here as to how you did it I think we might all appreciate it.

In the end, You cross reference For car type adn what do you get... WA LA... The timer harness...

Below Is a list of timer harnesses.

Again, If you need any help with anythign dealign with this just let me know.  I ain't that hard to get ahold of.

Re- Hash I had to update an older post to correct the links that had changed and host a jpg that didn't exist.

Hmmm..

well If some one was to go to the HKS website and search for turbo timer (harness) and found the same part number for their car matched another car that person would be safe to assume if they looked on the Greddy website and found the car listed that matched the car that used the same part number for the turbo timer(harness) on the HKS website that they would have found the correct part

but I haven't met anyone that has done this....

All the timers have basic jumper plugs one manufacter doesn't change much from the next (APEXi, HKS, Greddy) in the installation because they are vehicle specific.

i would like to know about hard wiring my ApexI auto timer.

thanks

Forcfed4 gets credit for this part....

This should probably be added to the FAQ since I couldn't seem to find any instructions on it: ???

1. Remove the 2 screws holding the hood latch in place and remove hood latch. Pop off the A/Int Wip Cancel button and remove silver ring (big nut basically). Pop cover from opposite side and remove screws from both. Remove fuse panel cover. Remove 5 screws from bottom of steering column plate. Remove plate.

2. You should see an abundance of connectors including a big blue one. The connector you are looking for is black and has 6 connections on it (only 5 wires). The wires are about 10g wire and are as follows:

White with a Black stripe (WB)

Black with a Yellow stripe (BY)

Black with a White stripe (BW)

Blue with a White stripe (LW)

Blue with a Black stripe (LB)

sixth slot is empty

3. Once you have found the connectors, you will need to connect:

Timer Harness

12V (Red) WB

ACC (Blue) LW

ON (Green) BW

Ground (Black) Good ground source

The color listings (Red, Blue, Green) are going to depend on the individual turbo timer but this is what the colors were on my Greddy unit.

4. Reassemble in reverse ;)

Hope this helps a few peoples.

Thanx for sheading some light metric-man.  I have a harness but I cannot find where the hell it goes.  I know it goes somewhere under the dash around the steering column.  Now, with your info, I might just hard wire it.

If you already have the harness to connect (jump into) once you get this far (under the steering column) an find the plug (connector) you have to use. Your home free.

Except for grounding or connecting the parking brake (ignition cancel) wire.

I just got a Moto Sport Type R timer. The directions say how to hook it up if you don't have a harness. I hooked it up but oviously didn't use the right wires. Everything seems to work except when it is timing out, the fans don't work. The engine gets hot very quick. This is in an 87 TSI with an 88 ECU. However, my manual is an 86 and the wiring colors are a little different. I have an 88 manual I copied off the internet but the electrical section cut off the last inch or so  and I'm missing information. It has 5 wires. Red, yellow, blue which go into a 3 wire connector. The brown goes to the emergency brake and the black is ground. I hooked them up to the Black, black/ w White and the blue. Does anybody have a clue as to what I might have done wrong?

Thanks,

Dean
