Photobucket ruined this procedure, its much easier to show in pictures than describe how to do it.   There are two sections to lock, the vacuum advance/boost retard stator and the centrifugal advance.  Importwarrior's link shows one way to lock the centrifugal advance, I like to just use small zip ties and tie the posts together.  I've also used bailing wire.  The vacuum advance stator is connected to the vacuum advance diaphragm through the little arm, you could just unhook the vacuum advance and plug it, the arm would hold it in one place but it kind of depends what stand alone you intend to run because that might not provide enough trigger angle for the ECU.  The MS systems I sell like 68 degrees of trigger angle and I get that by advancing the stator (CCW looking down on it) as far as possible.  The FIP guys used to cut an arm off the stator to get more trigger angle but I don't find that necessary.  So I remove the vacuum advance, throw it in the trash, remove the stator and use some wire wrapped around the spot where it connected to the vacuum advance arm, wrapped tight because there should be no play when assembled.  Then I thread both ends of the wire through the screw holes that held the vacuum advance in place, put the stator back on, put the ignition pickup back on, rotate the stator CCW as far as possible and tighten the wires to hold it in place.  Reassemble, lock the centrifugal advance and make certain there is no play whatsoever in any part of the dizzy or the rpm signal will have noise.

Four pictures could have prevented that explanation.

And here they are!  Had to lock one for a clients system so I took a few pictures and am trying out a new image host site.

This it the stator out of the dizzy with the wire wound around the rod mounting point.

Stator back in, wires protruding out of the old vacuum advance mount holes, stator fully CCW against the ignition pickup.

Zip-tie on the centrifugal advance, there isn't a whole lot of force here anymore without the weights and springs.

And a bit of RTV to keep the water out.

Wasn't that easier in pictures?  Cubeupload if anyone is curious, seems OK.

definitely better with the pics...does the wire hold the advance arm all the way out...as if the vac advance was fully advanced ( all the way out ).

I'd call it all the way in since the vacuum pulls the arm in and boost pressure pushes the arm out, but it is fully advanced.
