redskinjay
I took all good working parts off a rusted out but running quest and put them in one ive been peicing together lil by lil. Now, im at a stand still due to no start. It turns over and over but no start. Seems as if theres no spark. Im no ase mechanic and im learning hands on about these cars so please bear with me. Shouldnt you get a jolt by holding the coil plug while attempting to start ? No jolt was felt. Im also not 100% sure that I have the 4 lil wires hooked up right on the coil. If I had a detailed pic of the coil area that would be great. Also, things to check would be very much appreciated. Thanx in advance Jay
Ironside
Bump and try the FAQ section and starquestgarage.com they are helping me alot but I still ask questions...good luck...http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif
Edde
Jay - does your tach bounce while cranking? If should. On the plus side of the coil I believe you only need the fat (ish) white with black stripe wire. On the neg side you have a white wire and one that's maybe green w/yellow. My colors may be faded from age, not sure. There are two small devices - one attached to each side that aren't needed to make the car run. They are for radio noise suppression. You will also need to have a known working ignitor box to get spark. You might try not holding that coil wire to test for spark. That's huge voltage. redskinjay
ok, so I try all that and it still wont start and yes the tach bounces. I know all the parts are working because they all came from a running quest. Im just baffled.
Edde
I guess you're sure it's got no spark and this isn't mis-set timing or a fuel problem? It'd be good to know it's a total no spark situation. I hold a plug wire near to a ground and crank it - holding it with a glove or something. The wire that feeds the tach comes off the minus coil side and goes to the ecu and tach. It is a shielded wire that musn't be damaged. The ecu needs that signal. Here's a little I saved - thanks shelby. This relay is under and behind the glove box. Of course there's a fusible link for IGN that could be burned. See if this helps: funtioning of the main relay: send power to the ecu, does this on two red wires, sends power to the inj ballast resistor,, and ign igniter module closes the fuel pump relay when it sees a starter is runing signal holds the fuel pump realy once the ecu sees an ign signal,, sends power to egr solonid and purge canister solonid the ecu., once it sees ign power , sends power to the sensors,,5 volt, the tps, coolant temp sensor , air mass ,also the isc if it needs to change the idle position the ecu grounds the fuel pump relay if it sees an ign pulse , and pulses the injs,,(ground only) so as you see you need to check diff places in order to find out if the main relay or the ecu is the problem, power to the ign coil comes from ign swt,, nothing to do with ecu or main relay,,or power to themain relay from fuse link power to the injs,,comes from main relay,,has nothing to do with ecu power to the sensors (5 volt) means the ecu is power'd up and most likely workable
