Im mainly just taking car pictures...occasional landscape/scenery. I dont take pics of people much...so...and, if its a huge camera...oh well. I have my little 5mp for traveling. I just want something that takes crisp images, and can take night/dusk pictures

Fijifilm...looks like a nice camera, with good image quality, and a lot of features.

Panasonic...looks very nice...could probably find cheaper too

another Panasonic...heard it was the best of the point and shoot. Have seen cheaper other places.

I am no professional, i just enjoy photography. So i been thru a few brand. So far I have own a Nikon, i would grade an A. Canon, love it until someone stole it. Olympus, it was good but I would not buy it again. Fuji okay, i broke it, but would not buy it again. Canon G9 and I'm it. I have owned two now, and would definitely would recommend this brand. With your budget I would tell you to get the canon power shot a640, trust me you won't disappointed.

I like Canon, have never had a problem, have had 7, 3 as of now. I would look to upgrade your "travel" camera instead of buying the ones you chose. Either move up to an SLR or stick with the smaller Powershot size. Get something with higher resolution, maybe a 4x optical and IMAGE STABILIZATION. My favorite camera is still my 800IS Canon pocket digital, over my Elph or Digital Rebel. I can take some seriously nice shots, without too much fuss, can zoom after development without increasing grain, has a macro setting, large memory card, can fit in my pocket, and is only about $200.

Im no pro either...just play around. If you saw my post in the showroom, I like to find spots to just take pictures of the Quest...my dads Charger...or...just things that look cool.

and, whatever I get I will probably use as my travel camera, but, the one I have takes great landscape shots...but, for some reason, anything with a shine to it...(cars, water, glass) it gets all grainy. And night shots it gets very grainy...if you can capture one (ISO 200 is fastest)

The ones I listed there had at least 10x optical zoom, which is a lot for a standard camera. And, high resolution is a big thing (ie high megapixel) and anything 8 or above Id find satisfactory. Another qualtiy I kinda look for is video. I know theyre not video cameras, so, Im not to picky. But, a good quality video recorder on said camera would be a plus

Honestly...I think getting a camera is harder than picking a TV...besides the fact of a lot less money...lol

anything that should be pointed out as very important things to look for to get crisp images?...on a $300 budget?

I used to sell camera's all day long... in reality, most cameras are nearly the same until you're getting into high $$ models. If you want something cheap, and takes NICE pictures, get a cannon. They're still made in Japan.

I used hacked firmware on my latest cannon point and shoot, and now I have Auto Exposure Bracketing (AEB). This allows you to make HDR images. This sort of feature is usually only found on SLR's and high $$ cameras. Hacks FTMFW. Oh... I also have games on my camera now...

I have a Panny Lumix FZ20. I'm really happy with it. I think it's considered a "Pro-sumer" camera or whatever you'd call one that is one step down from a full SLR. Has 12X zoom and has a bunch of manual features. The newer ones have like 18X zoom now. That extra zoom is great for outdoors or sporting events.
