  1. good to see that you have seen the light! actually speak of the devil a twin carbed big block v8 pinto came into our shop today, and got on it leaving, and it wasn't near as impressice as the C5 vette that was in just a week earlier when he left. I'm not trying to convert anyone, I am merely stating don't knock it if you haven't tried it. I hear a million people hating the 4g63. and why? because it's newer and benefits from newer techonology and aftermarket support? go hate on some ls1's then ....... christ........... then where are all of the 12 second conquests? I have shown you all of the 12 second and better dsm that are JUST FROM MY AREA, not the entire U.S. . so show me the 12 second quests from your area. and grnated there aren't as many quests running around so I will give ebenfit of the doubt on a 4:1 ratio for every one 12 second quest we'll cancel out 4 12 second dsm's. just show me some actual numbers. completely uncalled for troll......... thanks for stopping by..... do not pass go, do not collect $200.
  2. gauges I consider a must have IN THIS ORDER ARE: (ensure that your oil pressure/coolant temperature/etc gauges are working or replace them then get.....) boost gauge (30hg/30psi) EGT A/F Gauge with a digital readout, not a blinky light gauge. Fuel Pressure gauge with electronic sending unit so you cna mount the gauge IN the car. that's the basic tuning package. the only consideration with EGT gauge is it should read AT LEAST to 900 degrees celsius, or 1650 farenheit.
  3. I never trashed the g54b. I am just sick and tired of hearing people trash 4g63's. show me the slow 4g63's, because they certainly aren't in Tampa DSM: 1. I know that I will continue to hear how joe x went xx.xx @ xxx on brand z turbo . Understand that they are the EXCEPTION, not the rule. There are plenty of guys running sick times on stock turbo's in the dsm community, but I don't want to discuss that. this is a discussion of potential, last I checked, and dollar for dollar I believe the 4g63 has more potential. If I thought for a minute that the g54b had more potential that engine would be sitting in my car. those who pointed out that the 4g63 is basically plug and play, sure it is! that is why you would use it, as opposed to some briggs and straton lawnmower engine that with a terribly large amount of custom work you could get some insane horsepower figure out of, but every part that is on it would have to be fabricated. What is the point in doing that? you would have to understand that for every person who appreciated what you did and thought"wow that is pretty amazing, that he's doing that with a briggs and startton" there would be a dozen others saying "what a waste of time and money...... he could have just dropped a vette engine in it and made the same horsepower."
  4. to put your time in perspective, your mph is a much better E.T. than a 14.1 willing to bet your 60' time was high as hell. Josh just went 12.2 @109 in a 90 awd talon. that was a pump gas run. ;D with some bolt on traction you should be at least mid to low 13's if not a high 12.
  5. oy vey. ok I avoided commenting as to not ruffle any feathers here, but here goes. Sakura's motor BARELY resembles a 2.6. period. they have fabricated so much crap on that motor now that any comparisons between the 2.6 in your car and the engine they run are stretches of the imagination at best. just as brent rau's engine (granted it *appears* very similar to mine) bears very little in common with mine. I see an awful lot of people who are running 14's that chime in on conversations like this, and a lot of misinformation resultantly is spread about the community. IT IS COMPLETELY COMMON FOR A LIGHTLY MODDED DSM TO RUN 12'S ON PUMP GAS. It is VERY UNCOMMON for a starion/conquest to accomplish the same on race gas. PERIOD. to put this whole retarded argument in perspective, this is like comparing a LT1 and a LS1, or better yet, a 01-02 cobra to an 03 cobra. on the one hand you have a engine which is producing less horespower than rated/advertised, and on the other hand you have an engine that can easily add 100hp to it's rated horsepower on very light mods. this is not opinion. this is fact. I'm sure plenty of people will flame this post now, but you show me a starion/conquest turning 12's and I can show you a dozen DSM's turning 11's on the same mods. I love the car, that's why I chose it for my chassis. but I opted for the 4g63 power plant for reasons which should be abundantly clear.
  6. ;D turbomirage.com is Tom's site. he's a local here and a helluva nice guy. Cool to see that his site is being trafficed by a little bit of everybody.
  7. they are saying they don't lke underdrive pulleys because they are driving the accessories slower, which means the alternator will be putting out less juice at the same rpms, and the a/c compressor will not be operating at an optimum speed as well. you won't gain much horsepower from the underdrive pulley, so what they are getting at is if you don't see any real gain from it, then why do it. I concur. they do look nice though. if you wanted a cleaner setup, go for it, or if you were tired of having two piece stock pulleys seperate and come apart, go for it, otherwise if it ain't broke don't fix it.
  8. the alternator will spin slower with a unorthodox pulley. It is an UNDERDRIVE pulley. by making the crank pulley diameter smaller it is closer to a 1:1 ratio with the alternator than the 1.5:1 or 2:1 ratio of the stock crank gear ( these are just examples to get the point across and obviously not exact..) for every one revolution of the stock crank pulley, the alternator puley might make one and a half complete revolutions. for every one revolution of the unorthodox pulley, the alternator might make about one complete turn. just trying to put it in laymans terms. but it definitely does NOT drive the accessories faster than stock.
  9. rally cars and drag cars are two different beasts entirely. If you are only using it on the launch ( as it should be used in drag racing) then you just keep the rpms up to keep the turbo spooled without any problems. rally cars are subject to a lot more abuse. I would never use a large turbo and anti lag in a rally car. just use a smaller turbo with slightly higher compr. pistons to the same effects with no ill side effects.
  10. not being close minded. In fact I gave a proper description of how it works. It does work btw Jesus has been using it in hi awd eclipse which has so far run a best of 9.8 @ 146 mph. He is using a Greddy supra spec T-78 turbo in that car. That turbo would take forever to spool without the anti-lag.
  11. last I knew the 4g63 anti lag was retarding the timing , not advancing it. clutch switch operated. same as the studderbox. hold the clutch in and mash the gas it's active. clutch in no gas it's normal. with studderbox and anti-lag you can peg at set rpms (4,500 5,000 or 5,500) on the line, while making boost in a 5 speed since you can't power brake it, and get a nice neck snapping hard launch. if your rear end and axle shafts, clutch and transmission can handle it that is. you can practice that at home. retard your timing to about 10 degrees ATDC and rev it up a few times. just don't drive it like that.
