This is Quest number four (currently down to two) and I think I hit a home run with this one! Was one-family owned until earlier this year when they traded it in. It has been repainted which was done VERY nicely (I do 100K+ resto work, I'm picky, and I'm happy with it for a daily driver), and the wheels were refinished but everything else seems to be mostly original. The stereo has been updated which I'm not crazy about, and under the hood has been blacked out (sheetmetal only). Has 166K on it but runs great with no squeaks/rattles in the interior. Clutch, brakes, and shifter all feel great. The steering is the worst thing about it, it has some play so it wanders around a bit, that'll be the first thing fixed.

Interior is great as well, only two very small (3/4") tears in the driver seat and they aren't really noticeable. The carpet is like new, as is the dash, back seat, headliner, and door panels. Really the only wear is on the front seats and steering wheel. The trip reset button is broken off, seems to be pretty typical.

Haven't decided yet if I'll keep it long term or enjoy it for awhile then sell it and finish my one owner '89 SHP/sunroof. I really like the 88/89 cars more than the earlier widebodies, but this car is so clean that I know I won't find another like it without doing a ton of restoration work to my '89.

Well that seatbelt has ruined the car. :(

Very nice car though.

Yeah I HATE the auto seat belts... and I keep forgetting to buckle the lap belt too.

Wow... really nice find!

hit me up if you decide to replace those hideous homemade decals.

I can hook you up with OEM exact duplicates, if interested. ;)

I thought those were '87 only decals? I've seen one other car with them somewhere, can't find the pics now.

So I said that I had seen that style decal before but couldn't find pics... Just found them on my old phone, saved them about 2 years ago. It's the same car, not another with the same decals. I'll get them on photobucket and post them later. I'll also redo the pin striping to match the grey wheel centers, that gold has got to go! I would just remove the stripes completely but I found a paint mask line on the drivers door that the pinstripe was hiding, gotta cover that back up or repaint the whole door. It's ridiculous what people will do to save time, wouldn't have taken 15 minutes extra to mask the door properly.

Got the old decals and stripes off and Natallica's black/reflective decals on. They look great!! I'm taking it to have the exhaust fully redone next week, it has three cats and a small replacement muffler so it's pretty choked off and won't make even stock boost. It's maxing out at 5-6 psi going by the stock gauge. Going to have the pre-cat gutted, then 2.5" tubing back to an appropriate sized dual tip muffler.

Also pieced together a Thule roof rack. I ride drift trikes and don't have a truck so I needed a way to haul the trike around. Still need to come up with a way to secure the trike to the load bars but it's a start. I've already used it to haul a set of Porsche Fuchs home from LKQ.

I've been hauling the trike on my '64 VW.

Another thing I've done was to bypass the original headlight wiring with a 12g relay harness to get full voltage out to the headlights. The headlights were changed out for Cibie 200mm E-Code housings with clear 80/100 watt Hella H4 bulbs. MAJOR improvement over the old sealed beams!! The low beams have a razor sharp cut-off and I aimed them slightly downhill so they don't blind anyone. I made the harness so it plugs into the factory sockets without modifications so the car can be put back 100% stock if ever desired.

I mentioned before that I had pictures of the car from a couple years ago on my old phone. I finally got them uploaded.

Got the exhaust done last week and what a difference!! Turbo spools much sooner and much more quickly. Also added a boost controller so it's peaking at 10 psi... it's way more fun to drive now! Got 19.8 mpg last tank, I'll check it again over the next week. Not sure if that's normal for these or not?

Pics of exhaust (pulled the stupid looking baffle out) and also a few pics of the headlight's low/high beam patterns.

It's fairly simple, just takes awhile to lay it out. I use male H4 plugs (ebay) that plug into the factory headlight connectors. On one side I pull power from the high beam terminal to power and ground the high beam relay, and use the factory connector on the other side for the low beam relay. No hacking the factory harness that way.

I run a 12g wire straight from the battery to each relay, then 12g wire from the relay to the new headlight sockets. The headlights get a new 12g ground back to the negative side of the battery. All of the connections were soldered.

The relays I used have dual 87 terminals so you only need two relays. I got them from Ray's Auto in Marietta GA. He also sells unwired ceramic H4 sockets and unwired relay sockets so you don't have to splice your harness into pre-wired sockets.

Got the bulbs on ebay:

Didn't do anything with the fog lights. The Cibie's low beams really don't need any help! There is zero upward light above the low beam cut off so there's no back glare in rain or fog.

I do have pair of NOS Cibie 175 driving lamps that I may install in the intercooler opening and wire them in to come on with the high beams only.

I've put about 5,000 miles on it so far and it's started cutting out when rolling into boost. It'll pick back up so I'm thinking it's the vacuum can. Checked it and it's not holding vacuum so I've got one ordered. Also picked up a TPS retrofit from boostinmin on here. Got plugs, cap, and rotor to do a tune up too while I'm at it. No other problems though, been a blast so far!

Been a while since I updated this. I've been driving the wheels off of it since September, my '64 VW broke a valve spring so the Conquest has been my daily since. It's up to 178K now, and has been extremely reliable over the last year and 17,000 miles. Never has left me stranded.

I've made some improvements- added a perfect '87 steering wheel and radio control overlays from Natallica, modified the seats to close up the bolster gap, new Cooper RS3-A tires, and new slotted/drilled/zinc rotors with painted calipers.

I hit a HUGE rabbit one night going about 50 mph, and the air dam didn't fare too well. Spend a few weekends getting it pieced back together with bumper epoxy and stainless mesh. I never did like the black band around the bottom lip that a previous owner had added so that was taken care of too.
