I wish

I might be one of a very few, or even the only one on webtv.

Some posts have so much in them it takes several minutes for it to load, if I don't get bumped off for taking so long. I wish there was something that would let me know how big the page was befor I click on it.

I like the new site so far...better features, more info...and a gallery!

Unfortunately, being a webtver, unless the page function has a way, like with sig and avatars, for a URL..I can't make an album. Webtv is only an interface box, I can't upload, download, has no modem or hard drive. I do have a small storage space called pagebuilder that will use my scrapbook. Scrapbook actually has the images...I can use them in my sig and avatar. I'm sure you've seen them, but can't be used anywhere else unless the URL can be read and used by the page function. Webtv is as basic as you can get...it works by linking, hence the need for a URL. My own images are in my scrapbook and got there from webtv's scrapbook loader.

I don't know if you can help in this, or change the page to include webtv friendly uploads. I know, I could ask someone if they'd be kind enough to upload my images for me, but I'd rather do this myself. I don't want to be a pest to anyone if I'd like to do any changes/ modifications from time to time.

Thank you.

Wolf aka Dave

I want to ask but are you on the dial up or broadband versions?

I don't think you can really change the format of a forum as its a broad base that works with browsers. I believe the only way to really make an album is to upload it yourself from your harddrive, which you yourself said you do not have ( which makes sense, you have an interface box that changes your TV to the net, and not a PC ). Unfortunately I think there isn't much if anything that would help modify the forum to help out in your issue. I think this is a scenario to where having a pc/laptop sorta wins out. :(

I kinda figured it might be a royal pain to change the page functions, being probably a set in the software.

Thanks.

By the way, I'm not on dial up or broadband...I have webtv.

Interface box only...turn it on...dials a local number for connection to MSN interface...then to MSN browser...stops at MSN (webtv) main. Click on a nic...goes to MSN homepage. Then I can go to my mail, surf the web, fav folders for saved links to fav pages, chat etc.

So you know...chat I can do with an IRC only...can't chat on the club forum...pc only....oh well. More and more things on the net are becoming less and less webtv friendly...:-(

Before long, I guess I'll just havta bite the bullet and get a pc.

well I had just done a quick look up online to verify a proper answer and saw variants of how they connected and such. To be honest you are the first and only person I know who uses webtv...

You should bite the bullet and maybe buy a used PC off of craigslist or something if finances are something in question - I don't want to come off asinine but I think WebTV is just a dying technology ( its user base has been dwindling ). High speed broadband is only like $15 a month if you find a good deal. Plus you have the benefits of saving pictures and videos and such of Starions/Conquests :D and join in on chat :D

Kinda figured that's the way it would be...thanks.

It's ok...I like being a lil different anyway...lol, my car's graphics kinda fits don't ya think? Being different I mean.

I'm reluctant to get a pc in any case. With my web...it just plugs into outlet, phone line, patch cord to tv...batteries for keyboard. Sit on my couch nice n comfy, 36 inch screen, keyboard on coffee table. No worries about viruses, webtv can't get em, no crashes...but slow and not always usable on some things. My wife does have a pc that needs a lil work and could use more memory, but has crashed at least 4 times the last year we used it. It's an option if it comes to that.

If a pc could hook into my tv, wireless keyboard like my web, I'd then give it some serious thought.

Chatting here, well heck who'd really want to talk with me? I'm just an ol furry wolf.

A few features I can't use...no biggie, as long as the main ones can be usable, I'm ok.

Thanks anyway!

I actually do believe there is a way with wiring and such to get the PC to your tv. I think it involve a videocard that has an S-video outlet if I'm not mistaken. Just to let you know since you asked lol

Wow, really?...Wonders never cease. Be real nice to have a pc on my tv...don't need new furniture that way lol. Seriously tho, seeing the net on a 36 inch screen while comfy on the couch is my way to surf. Some pages even have such small printing my 36 inch screen can't see...can't imagine a lil pc screen where it's probably so small it's a dot.

I know a few pc screens that are very sharp, my tv is close in sharpness, so details show up great. That's why I'd like it on my tv...clarity, details, size so you can see something, and you don't have to sit a foot away.

Thanks

ATI video cards have had a "TV out" feature for years now - basically an SVIDEO connector. Works quite well. What kind of TV or monitor are you running? The latest ATI and Nvidia cards spit out DVI that is trivially easy to adapt to HDMI as found on today's digital TVs.

Wireless keyboards & rats are also readily available. Or keyboards with integrated mice emulators: either trackballs or a tilting round pad. Acer has been selling one for years. The receiver plugs into regular PS/2 keyboard & mouse ports on the PC; newer versions use USB.

Without much effort, you could whip up a small PC, wireless keyboard & rat, DVI or HDMI output, and ATSC tuners built-in. This would give you HDTV capability, Tivo-like DVR capability, and web surfing all in one box.

Wow...the state of technology today!

I have my web connected via RCA plugs on the tv. The tv is about 10 years old, is an RCA Pro Scan with a 36 inch screen that is a picture tube. I think it's digital ready, but might not be HD compatable. It might be, being digital ready...high def DVD's show well on it.

Doubt I'd use Tivo or DVR, I watch so little tv, not much to watch really at least for me. Football, NASCAR, and a few shows..the ones I watch are kinda in hiatus right now.

With the state of technology today, it seems everything, tv, pc, phone, DVD, music et. al. could be all in one box...I mean all things entertainment with phone all in one lil box. Probably no bigger than a vcr tape too...lol

I shouldn't be surprized tho, vidio phones were around in the late 50's but were not put into general use mainly because of cost per unit and line interference issues. But I think it'll eventually be available. Fiber optic phone lines could be the one thing it would need to be a success. How'd I know of this? Dad worked for the phone company.

Sure gives me some ideas.

Thanks guys

I have my pc hooked up to my tv but I am running a different setup. PC to HD 42in LCD with VGA in. Just plug and play for me. I remember trying webtv when I was in bestbuy like 8 years ago. What you could do is go to bestbuy and buy the acer laptop that is fully loaded for 499. You won't regret it

I'm sure laptops work well, but for me...I'm not sure I'd want one. Too small and look delicate...tho I'm not a big wolf I'm already using a pencil to type on webtv keyboard.

So, for me, I think a pc tower hooked to the tv with wireless k/b and mouse would be better. I'll keep in mind the laptop as an option. I'm thinking more of my Dad who isn't on the net...he does have a pc for games, files etc. that I might want to exchange games etc. with him.

Thanks

Laptops are pretty durable, you got the kind that can also survive a fall from 40ft onto concrete to the thinnest thing out there that looks like if you sat on it, CRUNCH!

A PC tower has the ability for a vast array of upgrades though in the end. Much easier to work on and parts are easily replaceable :D

You can build a pretty darn good PC platform for around $400-500 if you shop around, or just go to Walmart and buy one, and if it doesnt have the S-video adapter already in it, buy the video card ( about another $80 )

Already on lo fi version.

I like my webtv...simple and easy to use, no worries about hacking or viruses...it's just sloooooooooow and limited to what it can access and use. Getting worse as time goes by.

If I do get into using a pc...I think I'm better off with a tower..easier to upgrade, not so small...lol and better able to exchange files with Dad.

I'm sure laptops have come a ways since they first came out, and are fine instruments...but still look to delicate and the k/b buttons are tiny!

And yes, I definitely want it hooked to my tv...larger screen for viewing the small print.

Then learn how to use a pc...hmmmmmmm, I know I can learn it, just take me some time. Probably freak me out with it's speed of loading pages, when I'm used to a minute to a minute and a half lol. Wait, that will cut into my snack time! Better think on it some more.

Thanks for the input.
