Custom Gauge Face Overlays

Recommended Posts

I'm in the process of changing my interior to blue as well as deigning my own stuff. Next on the design list is the gauge faces. I've taken the time to scan ours in and use that as a base for the mph marks, tach marks, etc. I have the color versions made up to show an example of the final product and I have the transparent (ready to print) versions ready to go as well. I thought I would share this with the community. Please keep in mind that some design ideas came from other gauges from other vehicles as well as other aftermarket looks. These are all a collaboration of what I've seen in many different cars as well as my own twist on them. Let me know what you think!

Note: The grey boxes, circles, words, and designs are all the transparent areas. The grey WILL NOT be there in the final product. It's simply to give the full image...

Tachometer (There's a reason for the white outlines I'll explain at a later time...)

HVAC (Couldn't get rid of the white area for this photo for some reason  Hmph! )

The Mitsubishi emblems for the up and down arrows were me just messing around. Although, I'm debating on whether or not I should keep them. Anyone want to post their opinion? Also note the newer, cleaner arrows and the actual STARION as the car for the recycle! I'm DEF keeping that :P Give me your feedback guys!

Thanks,

Charles Palka

Nice job, how will you be producing these, if you don't mind me asking? As far as design software, printing process. I use Gerber Omega and an Edge 2. How will you backlight the gauge faces?

Looks good man. Put the 150 back on the speedo face, cuz it's gangster.

I forget that you can't count! :P If i produce them and sell them I'll make sure to put a 150 on yours ;)

Woah, any way you can produce these for sale, or share the photoshop files? I've been looking to redo my faces, I'd be interested in this greatly. Nice touch with the Mitsubishi up and down, by the way.

I might can. I've just got to get the prototypes made. You can buy faces from other sources. Although you'd have to pay the $100+ price  But if I can make them well enough to sell then I'd probably sell them for less (depending on Material). And thanks on the feedback. I'd like to know what everyone else thinks about them. Not sure if i'll keep them or not...

Of course I don't mind. Seeing as you're the guru at the reproduction of these types of pieces...you'll probably redirect me. But, i'm not really sure to be honest. That's the only hiccup right now is finding out where and how to produce them and what materials I'd need. I'm honestly looking at the transparent printable paper and using a laser jet to print the black design and then tacking on transparent colored film behind it to make the colors. But, for mine i'm going to try something a little more innovative. I'm going to try to do mine like the Daytona Protoypes and Le Mans cars. The parts that are white on the gauges as well as ALL marks (red and white and teal) will be fluorescent and I've painted the needles with fluorescent paint. I would then install a blacklight for night-time driving to light up JUST the fluorescent pieces. It is to my attention that they've started doing this because it's easier on the eyes at night. And I don't know about everyone else but i've gotten way to many headaches from the bright orange lights. Let me know what you think and what advice you could give me on where, how, and what to do to get them printed up at a reasonable price. Emphasis on reasonable. Lol

Thanks,

Charles Palka

Nice work! I admit I wouldn't have posted the big images though, easy for people to use those to make their own if they wanted to. Obtuse photo angles are your friend. ;) I'd team up with Natallica and combine your talents if you're not sure how to go from design to production..?

Good luck

Thanks! I tried to downsize them but SQC wouldn't let me <_< I'll try to edit in a downsized image later :) I'd love to team up with him! Right now I might have a plan though. I'm combining heads with a local print shop. I think they could make them. I'll have to see though. Funds are depleted right now so this project is currently on hold :(

Looks great

I thought of one thing you could do

Make the face for the stock boost gauge but calibrate it to "fuel economy"

worst

bad who cares

good

I guess I could if it were desired. I'm not quite sure how I'd lay that out though to be completely honest. Think you could give me an example of what you mean?

Those look awesome man! Way cool. Id be interested if you ever make some of these to sell ;)

Thanks man! I hope I can make them for a GP. I've got to get mine done first though  My personal favorite is the Tach with the Mitsu and Ralliart logos. Hope they don't see this and sue me!

Definitely the most powerful logo. lol Plus it really fills that awkardly blank space! I can't wait to try the flourescent idea for the tach. I'm hoping it'll turn out as well as I think it will...

If you do produce them can you not do the boost gauge for those of us that have an aftermarket gauges?

Of course! I have an aftermarket anyway so that's why I didn't post that one up. I didn't make one. Although I probably should as a sneak peak for those who have them in case I produce them. I just need to find a printing method. I've got a plan and I hope it works. Just need to get work going. Dang ford needs to fix itself and get sold already! Lol
