Just joined the club, very new at this, love my Conquest. Original owner, have had it for 24 years way before you TSI's. Going through third engine rebuild and body restoration. Will start posting most recent pics asap... going to be nice; stay tuned.

Original owner since '85:
Stationed overseas in Germany, 1990: started upgrades; no name brand aftermarket IC, 2.5" exhaust, Center Force clutch, Eibach springs, KYB struts, Riken rims 16" x 8", instaled european body kit, rear spoiler and front airdam for IC and new paint job.

Stateside 1993: bored out block .030 over, JE pistons, 12 A turbo (or whatever the stock TSI turbo is), balancing shaft eliminated, MCA jets removed, lightened flywheel, Master Blaster ignition, Trust blow-off valve, TEP cam with hydraulic lifters and 3angle racing cut intake valves, modified air intake can, custom 3/4" rear 1/2" front sway bars.

1994: replaced stock block and pistons after cracking the block racing a 302 mustang.

2003: was going to junk it and found STARQUEST with links to sites for parts, replaced exhaust with full stainless 2.5 " exhaust and new KYB struts.

2004: repainted with the silver racing stripe. Found Horsepower Enterprises (custom mechanic/ high end auto body shop).

2008: over hauled brakes with TEP vented discs, kevlar pads, steel braided lines and powder coated calipers, replaced IC hoses with TEP OVC hard pipes and upgraded Turbo XS blow-off valve.

Now that I have the rust under control, next step; take out engine, bore out cylinders .040, JE pistons, 19C Race turbo at 18 PSI, large core KDM aluminum radiator ($200 less than Race TEP's, same radiator), Race Pro Grip clutch, Innovate air/fuel ratio meter, change power steering box (been leaking for years), paint engine compartment, drop front suspension and epoxy coat.
After all that see how the body paint is holding up maybe new paint job, new stereo, and make sure A/C is working optimally. I like driving comfortably and not sweat my rear off. What are your plans? Getting parts is not easy unless you have a car lot full of extra Starquests that's why I could never stip it down to bare bones. As long as its clean of rust and looks good I'm happy.

Found Mookeeh bushings, now I can get the rear suspension arms powder coated the way it should have been done when I had it all apart. Back to the old drawing board, going to do the front suspenson and differential housing as well, then move on to engine compartment.

Not going with the 19C anymore, opened up a thread on "Advanced Mechanic" about hitting 350 HP, will be going with a T3/T4 turbo rated at 450 + output. Got a lot of info from that thread and will be making lots of changes. Instead of J E, going with Wiseco .030 over bore, ordering them today.

Okay. This gives me a lot of ideas for my 85 Conquest. I'm about to rebuild the engine. Started out just replacing old gaskets but while i'm in there I might as well get everything out of the way now. Definitely give the thumbs up on the paint. I'm not looking for power like you but just enough to show the locals who's top dog and stay running through the rest of college.
