  1. any suggestions on how i go about upgrading these wires. Seems there's no way to disconnect or remove them from the black box. Where can i get a new black box?
  2. so i just got around to taking off the old alternator. The new alternator i bought doesnt have the right body or right plug.. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/10965085_10152686528071239_1844056296_o.jpg But now that i'm looking at the wires... i can't even change out the wires... http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/output.jpg thats the bottom of the fusible links box http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/output_1.jpg
  3. ok, but what about the body of the alternator. Was there a difference between the years as well? i'll take a picture tomorrow so you can see what i mean. So where can i get an alternator?
  4. I'd rather use this thread rather than start another alternator thread.... So i finally got the chance to take off the alternator and wanted to put in the one i bought off ebay last year.... yes the car has been sitting that long...... Came across problems 1. the plugs aren't the same. 2. The bottom "ear" where the bolt goes through is two piece rather than one 3. the top ear where the bolt goes through to place tension on the belt is threaded unlike the one on the car which is smooth.... Can someone send me a link to an alternator that is correct?! http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/10965085_10152686528071239_1844056296_o.jpg
  5. As you can see in this pic, there is a ground wire from the body of the alternator to the engine block. Where can i get that kind of flexible wire? I can just use any wire i have right? http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d182/Professor-Quest123/Batt%20Grd/P1010345.jpg Below is a pic of the alternator that i want to install. There are bolts that hold the front and back of the alternator together, an example is the bolt below the B+ connection. Can i put the ground wire there. It should be safe (i wont mess anything up) by loosening this bolt in order to place a ring terminal for the ground wire right? http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/DSCN1543.jpg
  6. ucw458 Looked at the wiring that's on the car right now, the wire from the alternator to the battery appears to be of already upgraded. http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/DSCN1542.jpg Please forgive the crud on the battery, that's my fault since i let it sit there since Sept when i last parked the car. I'm very extremely new to wiring but i am willing to learn with guidance. I just want to make sure i have your suggestion correct. So is this how the 120 amp fuse should be integrated into the wiring? http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f187/jmisenas/Alternatorwiring.jpg I will be ordering the fusible links from that source RonnieJthanks!
  7. I'm changing my alternator to the hyundai replacement. I want to do good maintenance by this and start replacing old wires. I want to change out the fusible link wires according to this link http://www.starquestclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=88954 I wanted to just purchase fusible link wire in the different gauges and make my own but according to this thread, http://starquest.i-x.net/viewtopic.php?t=1180&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25 , finding and using the right female connectors on my own is a bad idea. So instead I rather decrease errors in making my own fusible links and just buy the links from Mitsubishi. Just wondering if anyone has a cheap source online since the sources i've come across are charging ridiculous prices on shipping.
  8. When using this alternator, did you just use the same belt? Or was a different length belt needed? If it's a different belt needed, got a part number? I need to buy this alternator, i just need to know which belt i need to buy. I like the Gates, but i need length or part number is even better!
  9. Found a set locally for what seems to be a great price! 18x7.5 all four with offset of 42. Will these fit my 89 quest with no issues? Currently the tires on them are 235 45 18
  10. I tried to get it on video for you guys. The first time around, i used a sealed case on the gopro cam and the sound was horrible. I changed cases and when i went out for the second run, the squeaking has drastically diminished. I can only hear it when im slowing down to a stop where the rest of the engine noise or wind does not drown it out. What the hell. The strut mounts are new as the previous owner changed them. Not entirely sure of what material. As of right now i can't say that i hear knocks or something loose or feel anything loose while driving. Just hearing the squeaks! What grease do i use? Seems like that would be a lot of work lol. I'll set aside some time and get it done when i can. I'm just glad that as of right now nothing seems loose. Any other ideas are certainly welcome!
  11. So the other day i went to Shark Valley here in the Florida everglades. Had a bike rack in the back with 3 bikes on it. On the way there, there was some construction. They laid down a series of rumble strips the first of which totally caught me by surprise. For those that don't know, rumble strips are pretty much portable speed bumps. Anyways, the first set was VIOLENT. Needless to say i was VERY slow on the remaining strips that i had to go over the rest of the day. On my way still to the park, i began to hear squeaking noises. Poked my head out the window and accelerated and decelerated to see if it went along the speed of the engine, thank god it didnt. It did squeek with the countour of the road. I could hear it best when between two walls or between cars, basically anything that would allow the sound to bounce back. I have to say though, it did not affect drive quality (as far as i can feel). Today, first thing in the morning i lifted up the front to see how things are looking underneath. In my head i think that something went loose when i went over those rumble strips. Can't find anything loose in the front. Have yet to look at the back. Problem is i don't trust my eyes. I'm not familiar with this car at all, or any car to immediately spot problems. I did pull and tug and push at everything suspension related and nothing budged. I'll try to make a video and post it up and maybe that would help in finding out what happened. For most, as long as the noises dont affect the ride, it's good enough. But for me it isn't. This is something NEW and is not normal and would LOVE to fix it! Please help and tell me what you guys think it could be!
  12. I found a great place that i've purchased pads and rotors from. However, they do not have Conquest or Starion listed under their inventory. I was just wondering if anyone knew other cars that have the same specs as our starquests? What i mean is, there must be other cars out there that use the same rotors we do that are more common and can be used to search for rotors for our cars. Just wondering if anyone knew.
  13. Wow, 8 years later and i find this info. If the rain stops i want to go out and attempt to install an HKS type 0 turbo timer. I do have the harness MT-1 (4103-RM001). I was intending on removing the steering column cover as that's where i would assume the ignition connectors would be. Apparently i would be looking at the wrong place. So the correct place where the harness will piggy back into the factory wiring would be behind the hood latch area as described in this thread? Also, i am looking at the FSM and at the center console diagram. Assuming from what i see, if i remove the 2 screws closest to the shifter and the two inside the console space the whole thing will lift off? Does the emergency belt disconnect need to be disconnected somehow to get the console off to get to the lonely parking brake lever wire?
  14. rez'ing an old thread but my question applies to this. I have a turbo timer and the harness, just wondering where the ebrake wire is located before i start taking apart the console so i have a good idea where to look.
  15. so, you ready to send me those rims or what lol
