I spent a bit of time mucking around with these units a couple of years ago:

You might be able to make out the colours of the wires on the loom that goes between the control unit and the display, from memory they were a direct pin to pin connection. The connector used is really really common on late 80's and early 90's mistubishis, so you should be able to find the plugs you need from a junk yard, get them with some pigtails and have a play.

Thanks zacman, I have some plug I got me from the 85 wiring.....and I tried to match them by facing them back to back and match the wires but it doesnt work....so I was thinking if I knew what wires are power and ground I would be able to test the display with a 9v battery

I already did the main unit...Thanks to that pic I was able to turn it on....but it wont turn on the display

I've never seen the VELNAS units in any of the wiring diagrams, or supplements knocking around. Not to say they aren't documented somewhere though.

I'm 100% sure that the loom between the control unit and the display was a straight cable though, so if you looked at the back of both plugs, one was a mirror image of the other. I had to make one up at on stage to bench test a unit I was replacing all the bulbs in, and it most definitley worked.

I'd say if the display doesn't turn on with the loom between the two units wired up like that, it might be a dud? They're pretty old tech, it could be stuffed? :-(. Would be handy if I lived in the US, you could send it to me and I'd test it, and send it back.
