doing some window shopping on tires for the flatty once i get the front 4 lug wheels back on it, for my personal taste i want to put raised white letter tires on the car. and finding stock size tires is not a east challenge and i am limited to about 3 choices.

1. Bf Goodrich T/A Radial -  Great tire but its like putting Nike's on your car, very pricey but are the ONLY tire that comes in a 205/60/15. they are about $126 a tire and a little over $500 for a set, that is pricey but BF's are one of my favorites.

2. Mastercraft Avenger GT - Less pricey then the BF's and i really like the looks of this tire BUT closest tire size would be 215/65/15. they are about $100 a tire which is $400 for a set about $100 cheaper for a set then the BF's.

3. Cooper Cobra GT - Coming in at the cheapest price but i have heard they have a rough ride to them. clostest  size is the same as the Avengers 215/65/15. priced at $96 a tire making them $384 for a set which is $120 cheaper then the BF's.

BF Goodrich 205/60/15 outer tire diameter = 24.7 inches   8.2 inches Wide on 6" rim

Mastercraft and Cooper 215/65/15 outer tire diameter = 26 inches   8.4 inches Wide on 6.5" rim

If i just went with the cheapest black wall i could find specs on, it would be the Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 at $53 a tire and $252 a set.
Sumitomo 205/60/15 outer tire diameter = 24.6   8.1 inches wide on 6.5" rim

Out of the white letter tires i think i would like to go with the Avenger GT with only about a $20 difference in price for the Coopers which are the cheapest of the three. I like the looks of them better  then the Coopers and almost more then the BF's. There is just a hair over 1 inch difference in overall height of the 215/65/15 and the 205/60/15 and a width is about the same so i dont think i would have any problems with them rubbing, i was hoping maybe someone was running a 215/65/15 already and would have input on their fitment.

the taller tire is also something that my personal taste likes, for one i am old school and old school cars had big fatty tires on them and most of the muscle cars came factory with raised white letters. not to mention the ride difference with a nice meaty tire compaired to these low profile stuff you kids run now a day.....lol. to me the car has a more sporty look with them on it, tell me this flatty doesn't scream sporty and SEXY!  If the car had just black wall tires it would look totally different, with out the wide fenders and without a wing the white letter tires just add a little jazz to it.

If you like to drive like you stole it on occasion, don't get the coopers. They look really nice, but are loud and wear like crap. Had some on my 530i, never again on any vehicle I own

It's just money. Get what you want. You can't take it with you. Or buy black letter and get white tire paint markers and make em white letter if you need to save $$$$

Ive done that ^^^^^, and it does wirk. Had a set of nitto 455's that I made the letters white with a paint marker. Held up well. I had to redo it every now and then, but if you dontvwashbyour car alot it'll hold up.

yes i do like to drive it like i stole it....lol. although with the 84 it wont be driven as hard as i would drive my 87. but given your thoughts on the coopers on top of the stuff i have already heard i think i am gonna eliminate those.

i am leaning towards the Avengers because i always run the BfGoodrich tires. tell me if you see a pattern....

I gotta say it, not to offend anyone, but those Probe's were awful ugly, even the GT or whatever was the highest level. And the name is suspect, too. I kinda like the white letters, but think I would get tired of it sooner than later

i owned that probe about 15 years ago when my first son was born. i always kinda liked them and the V6 model is a pretty peppy car but it sure ain't no conquest.

i don't know why i am obsessed with white letter tires, i just remember going to car shows and cruise ins with my dad as a kid and all the cool cars just seemed to have them. Thats how my 87 ended up being modeled to look like a muscle car, and believe me that image of the "muscle quest" has been a idea stuck in my head since the first quest i bought.

i was able to find a 195/60/15 in a white letter but there is one problem, they are winter tires. speed rating is only a T and i know they are made of softer material and wear faster but i have run snow tires on my honda year round. the t rating is still rated at 118mph which is faster then i would ever have the car, and i kinda like the aggressive tread look they have.

Price on them is under $300 a set and i can get them at NTB where my buddy works, i got all new tires for the 87 for $200 mounted and balanced out the door. it would have been $390 with tax and mounting if i was just a normal customer.

believe me my back will thank me on the 20hr drive to branson with those "balloon" tires on there.....lol. and it will look damn sexy doing it.

i am meeting Indiana on saturday to pick up the stock front wheels, he is actually coming to ohio for something and wants to meet me at a Home Depot thats about 30 minutes from my house.

i also talked with my buddy at NTB and not sure he is going to be able to get the tires i want so it may just end up with black walls for now. i think i can get the same Aspen's i put on the widebody for about $150 for a set.
