BADBAJA
Just starting this swap. Got the 91 stang motor and t5 from a guy that ditched the stang. Then he tried to put the 5.0 in a early explorer with the t5. He tried to do the wiring but stock stang wiring is a nightmare. So then he bought a new painless 5.0 harness ($500) and it was still to much. I picked up the whole rig for $600 delivered. Pulled the motor and t5 sold off a few explorer parts and made back $250 scrapping it. So I got a complete 5.0, t5, Hedman headers, painless 5.0 engine wiring kit with check engine light. Brand new clutch and pp, and a few other goodies. A little about me. I have been doing 12volt wiring for over 20 years. Over 20 engine swaps from fi to carb no problem. this is now my business and this will be my show car to display my talent and skills. The reason I chose the 302 is mainly price and not having to modify the vehicle much. Aftermarket for the 5.0 is huge, and they have forged guts from the factory. Also the dizzy is up front, do a turbo with tune and you can be in the 10s. Back to the swap. I picked up this 86 with a bad engine smolder, it never caught fire but did smolder so bad the fire department would not open the hood. It smoldered for over 45mins, complete meltdown of upper engine. The battery was literally lead plates no plastic or acid. I purchased it for $180 from my neighbors dad (I didn't have a $20 to make it $200 even) they said they didn't want him to have it anymore. He was og owner. Took me months to get it clean. I will try to find a pic or you can prob go back in profile and see? Anyways it was one clean job after I was done. Really really clean for the 4 banger. Well it had a slight rod knock from the beginning and the back of the valve train has a Crack. It runs decent, made a couple car shows and impressed but forget about reliability. Well I was just saving to get paint but then stumbled upon the 5.0 and had to snag it (Ty babe). So I decided to strip down the motor and put explorer water pump and timing cover. This brings the water pump snout about a inch and half closer to the motor. Hoping to not have to cut the front support and keep the bay simple. Also the explorer pump and timing cover is supposed to cool better. The main goal will be reliability. So this next week is the beginning of the engine removal. I would like to keep the 4cyl going (it still runs and drives)and pull the existing harness and ecu and transplant it into a smaller chassis rig like 70s datsun, or yota. A 88-89 harness and ecu would be best but I am not throwing coin at that project yet. I would clean the motor up and get a new head also. I just got the stock heads back on the v8 and as soon as the 4 banger is pulled I will be mocking up stuff. Trust me I have memorized the 302 swaps on this forum and the other swaps as well and want to thank all for showing off your work and descriptions. BADBAJA
Got the Energy Suspension mounts. Will see where they put the pan. I wish I could buy a set of solid mounts just to be precise with drilling the holes and then use the lower mounts. The energy suspension are supposed to be like vert mounts. BADBAJA
Also to save time I decided to sell the conquest motor and tranny. I will pull as much stock harness as I can. If I ever figure how to post pics easily from my photobucket on my phone I will get them up.

clow340
Holy crap that hood is boss. The factory harness is pretty easy to pull, just the blower box under the glove box is beyond a chore to remove...
BADBAJA
Tim I got energy suspension mounts and they are a 3 piece unit. The flat part with the large bolt and nub can u bolt so I want to pull it and possibly make another flat part that bolt to the factory k member bolts 2 on each side. Then figure my holes for the energy suspension mounts. Pretty much just making new resting plates for the poly to sit on. I just hope where the motor sits the holes won't be covered to bolt into the k member. Pics coming soon.
clow340
if you have any interest in a rack and pinion set up i can send you everything ive been working on for my set up (i just finished it yesterday). im currently doing the same swap your doing. it will clear the engine/trans and gets you a few more inches for the driver side header. also you get lots more steering angle. nothing im working on is getting posted for a month until its finished though. BADBAJA
Clow I am seriously considering a rack swap. So yes please any info would be great. With the two custom motor mount plates as mentioned above I could easily weld off some brackets for a rack

BADBAJA
Looking very good. I want something completely bolt in if I can. Imagine some 1/4 plate sandwiched between the motor mounts and the pedestals they mount on. Then drill out the factory bump stops and run brackets off them all tied together to hold the rack. This idea may even work for the stock motor. Maybe I can sketch it if I take a pic later. Most of yall like me and prob need pics or diagrams to visually see it. jet
Front or rear mounted rack ? 240 or mustang rack ?
BADBAJA
302 swap would need a rear mount that is behind the k member. The racks I would look into would be v8 front engine based cars. I know a lot of guys use the nissan ones even with v8 swaps but I like heavy duty when ever possible.
BADBAJA
Also look up 69 camaro steering box to rack and pinion swap.

BADBAJA
Been busy Having a hard time figuring exhaust.not sure to do twins or singe turbo. I don't think I can even do NA because the pass header hits the frame rail on the inside. Look at all the room when you use a explorer pump and dampener Gotta start looking into the rack swap also. 3000gt or dodge stealth looks a little promising. http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/mazda_6t9/Black%20Widow/20150609_162920_zpskzeepykm.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/mazda_6t9/Black%20Widow/20150609_145812_zpsa7ojlisv.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/mazda_6t9/Black%20Widow/20150609_145812_zpsa7ojlisv.jpg http://i87.photobucket.com/albums/k146/mazda_6t9/Black%20Widow/20150609_145351_zpsx7tppats.jpg

Xtreme Industries
that's going to look amazing when it is done. can you notch the headers to make it fit better, sure the flow will be a little less smooth but the twin turbos will make up for it. BADBAJA
I switched to explorer balancer and water pump to push it back a inch and 3/4. I almost want to use the explorer clutch fan. Still not sure.
