Feeler: Starion/Conquest 1/10 scale r/c car wheels

Yep, I'm sure many of you have seen the little SQ wheels I've made on here in the Random pic thread, or on Facebook.

I'm considering making a GP run of some of these, and would like to see what kind of interest there would be in them.

Price: I'm not all too sure on this yet, but they'll be a little more than your standard sedan wheels.

Specs, they are a VERY LOW offset, 12mm to be precise. Most sedan wheels around 3mm. I built these around an older Tamiya chassis that is really narrow, and the Starion bodies are all the 200mm width for the Nitro cars. They are your standard 1.9" wheel, at 26mm wide, so grip or drift tires are plentiful. and with the 12mm hex drive hub, they'll fit crawlers too.

Would you guys be ok if they came just in a primer? or would everyone be more interested in them pre-painted by me? Or just raw (plastic I've used so far is an off white)?

SO, who would be interested in a set?

sorry, some of these pics were taken with my ipod. I'll get better close ups after I get back from Sturgis next week

LMK guys, I wouldn't start making any until September though, as I have to move at the end of this month.

And feel free to discuss pricing you'd be willing to pay for a set of 4

I'm in, pricing is tough to judge.

From what I can see on ebay, you can get plastic wheels for $20 a set, and metal for $100. So I guess anywhere between there (I assume on the middle-higher side) would be your range?

I'd be fine with primer or raw finish.

I'm in definitely, maybe for two sets if they aren't super pricey.. Raw plastic is fine.

For those who asked, the body is made by Spice and is getting harder to find. I got mine from Banzai Hobbies, they're the best source for Japanese RC stuff like that. They have it on sale for $33, and if you need a car they have some sick ones up to 50% off.

Spice Starion body at Banzai

Spice Desire SRD01 Drift Chassis Cheap

Tamiya TA05 VDF Gold Edition Chassis, $200 off.

Can you do staggered wheels? If not thats fine. I just picked up a used Associated TC3 for cheap on ebay. Going to be running an old 1/9 scale Kyosho MGB roadster body with the HPI vintage banana spoke wheels. Looking to get the Starion body at some point....

I've only made the one wheel, and the offset is 12mm, or REALLY low, it was because the Tamiya chassis I made them for (TA03) is really narrow. Not sure how it compares to other electric sedan chassis' though.

I've been running this one set for a good bit, and they don't like hard impacts too well, the lip of the rim busts off. but if the tire's glued, it shouldn't be too much of an issue (hasn't been for me yet with the stock rubber Tamiya tires), and I've rounded a hex out on one of the wheels. I haven't pulled them off the car yet to take good pictures.

I just want to keep everyone informed on how they're performing, they won't be the strongest wheels you can get by a long shot, so they may be better suited for static display, but I plan to run the piss out of them just to see how they hold up.

Drift tires are hard as rocks, made of plastic instead of rubber... so if they are used, the rim would probably be fine even with a hit or two.

It might be a bit still. I'm not satisfied with the material I made the first to set from. it's too soft of a material, and it cracks too easily from it flexing.

After I get settled into the new house, I may start running some samples of different durometers of similar materials and see how it goes.

The second set I mounted some drift tires on, which was a pain due to the material's softness. and one keeps spinning of the rim.

I've got a ways to go before I feel comfortable selling sets though. I'll keep you guys posted on the progress though.

Cool, that you want to make the quality a level you feel good about. And yeah usually those tires get glued on. The drift tires do tend to come off other rims also.

I'd be in for a set for sure. And, since it's just going to be a static display I don't mind what material you make them out of.

Can't wait to be able to buy a set, and congrats on the new house!
