wasabii
What do you guys think about this dyno graph? http://www.redz31.com/turbofaq/dynographs/rick88ssdyno.jpg The dyno pic is from a Nissan VG30ET engine found the in early Nissan 300ZX. I know that is down the line for me, but I am weighing whether I will go MPI or swap a different engine in the Starion... I personally think that a V6 engine is best suited for the SQ, not too long (inline 6) or too heavy ( V8 ). I really have nothing against the G54B, it's been very good to me so far, but my goal is put down 400whp reliably, on pump gas and maintain a nice smouth torque/hp curve. So far that I have seen, SQs that push anything above 330whp have pretty spiky graphs and don't seem fit for daily driving. What do you guys think? wasabii. smog
reminds me of a g54b where the hp doesnt even bypass the torque in numbers, otherwise its a pretty nice looking dyno. Reminds me a g54b dyno with a decent header. I'm not a v6 fan at all, or any v for that matter, trying to do anything in a sq engine bay with a v would be 10x worse than my inline 6, and mine is tight lol. the vg30det is a good engine though. They are quite popular drag engines in the last model 300zx twin turbo. Seen plenty of 700+hp setups, I just run when I see their engine bay space, or should I say lack there of Seriously though, dont bother doing an engine swap if you want a powerband like that, g54b does that good, makes a lot of torque at lower rpms, then your powerband goes downhill the rest of the powerband. that one is a bit smoother, but here is that popular g54b dynohttp://www.nwstarquest.com/550g54bdyno.gif
wasabii
Interesting Dyno Graph, hadn't seen that one yet - oh wait a minute, yeah I did, that's Haltech dyno graph... A couple of notes though, that turbo was pushing 35psi, was running race fuel and had HELL of MODIFICATIONS done to his car and HELL of MONEY put into it!!! lololol I know, speed costs money, but he must have a good $15,000 invested in that car for that kind of performance... Well, here are the specs on the car running the dyno I posted: 423RWHP 458RWTQ Microtech MT-8, 700cc injectors 7.8:1 compression Spearco 2-221 intercooler, custom piping T-4 turbo with 60-1 compressor and O-trim turbine. 23PSI boost on 93 octane fuel. Wastegate: External The car probably has more done to it, but no much. These engines can produce 400+hp with relatively less mods, less money and more reliably...Check out the website if you'd like: http://www.redz31.com/index.html Anyway, thanks for feedback, I want to hear what you guys have to say . wasabii PS: By the way, the engine in the late model 300zx is the vg30dett, which has DOHC and is wider because of wider head. 01Ta88Tsi
Not all v8's are heavy ever look into using the LS1 (my fav engine hehe) not sure on the exact weight but i know it weighs exactly 30 lbs lighter then the 240sx 4 cylinder engine. Take a look at this guy from ls1tech not only put an ls1 in a conquest turboed it on top of that. http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t...hlight=conquest And as far as having no room to work on the engine. if u look at the engine bay pic of that car then a stock camaro or firebird conquest has more room! lol O and the engine isnt gonna be halfway under the dahm windshield cowl like on my TA only thing i hate bout my Trans Am [/endrant]

KeithTSI
eh,its a chevy...big whop  Cheap parts for cheap engines. Not that im a chevy guy, but cheap parts for cheap engines coming from someone with a 5.0 in their quest. As a previous 5.0 owner, not exactly a expensive engine, ecspecially not a carb model. I dont know, guess my point is people who live in glass houses shouldnt throw stones.
