any questions please feel free to contact me.

i just did this process yesterday and it was nice to see the Tach working again.

i used heat shrink and electric tape and soldered everything.
also you could use liquid electrical tape? not sure if that is what it is called.

I often use this stuff on the bare metal connections, let it sit for a minute and then heat shrink over it. Creates a nice water and corrosion proof seal.

Rise of the living dead post....

Would this work with 4 coil inputs and 4 1N4004?

Usually one zener diode only. You need 1 regular diode for every 2 cylinders when running edis.

So 2 for 4 banger 3 for 6 and 4 for 8 cylinder.

Use the 1 watt diodes and 1watt zener diode.
Be 100% sure to cover any exposed leads and or wires.
Heat shrink them all.

Example of V8 setup.

I've got a Megasquirt (DIYPNP) with 4 channels, 4 coils.

Tach outpot is also 12v square wave and doesn't want to turn the tach so this is my backup plan.

I have a small query about this amazing thread.

I'm running 4x LS2 coils and want to know which wire I install the diodes off. My setup is like this.

I assume I install a diode off each ignition out wire? Thanks

If your EDIS or COP ( Coil On Plug) it is the same process when soldering the diodes together.
just that the EDIS uses only 2 diodes and 1 Zener diode.
COP Uses 4 diodes and 1 Zener diode. One for each COP Ignition Out.

The Black Stripe on the Zener Diode and the Silver stripe on the diodes need to face each other when you solder them together.

Thanks guys. Thats exactly what I was planning on doing. I understand the reverse current stuff. I think it's such a cool hack. I already bought the diodes for installation this weekend. Just might take me a week to get the new coils running.

Good stuff IW.

FYI
If you are running a standalone though such as megasquirt you can just remove the resistor in line with the tach and run the square wave tach signal from the ECU straight to the tach. I've had several different tach feed circuits through the years that I won't get into now.

Ever had issues with the diode setup? Mine was somewhat intermittent in that configuration
