  1. I've read about the Isis Multiplexing computers for a few years now (various magazine and online articles), and I'm wondering if anyone has attempted to use one in a Starquest. From what I've gathered, there are quite a few electrical woes with these cars, and this system seems to take a pretty awesome approach to controlling all the electrical systems in a vehicle. Apparently it controls anything and everything electrical from engine management systems to air conditioning control to stereo to power windows, and it appears easy to diagnose any issues. And thoughts or comments?
  2. I figured as much. It's a shame because there are a lot of interesting mods and the like in these forums!
  3. So I've been reading through a lot of the old posts in some of the different forums and found that many of the pictures are not loading. I'm guessing it's due to broken links or old hosting, but it's a shame because there's potentially a lot of interesting stuff in there - especially in the body and interior mods section. I'm just wondering if anyone knows if there's an archive somewhere that maybe contains a lot of the missing information.
  4. Hey, Scott! Just out of curiosity, does your MS system have the capability to control a COP (coil-on-plug) or distributorless ignition conversion. Not really sure there's a reason to convert (especially on a "regular" street car), but it'd be nice to know.
  5. Hey, Jon! I just sent you a message. Thanks again for all the help!
  6. I REALLY liked the first one too, but it does have some floor pan rust issues (I communicated with him a little). He's also only coming down about $200, and I just don't have that kind of money allotted for this project car. Granted, I'd probably use less "restore" and "mod" funds on this one... What intrigued me about the second one is that it's the '89 model year, which had a few factory enhancements not found on the other model year cars. I was also inquiring about the value of these cars. Granted, the value of anything is what someone is willing to pay for it, but in the two examples above, should I expect to spend $5700 on one that looks decent with lots of mods and potential undercarriage rust issues? Is $4500 a good price on a car that needs work? I looked at a local '86 that was missing a LOT of parts and had its issues, and the guy wanted $2700. I was at $1000 max on that one. Am I out of my mind? --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Holy cow! How many of these cars do you have?! I was reading about the differences between the manual and auto cars, and it seems like the conversions are quite a bit involved. Your black SHP auto is really nice, but the transmission is what kills it for me. Do you have a link to the white one? Does it come with any parts or would I need to locate an engine and transmission? Thanks again!
  7. I've been into cars for a pretty long time, and I'm fairly confident I know what to look for in a used car. I've also read about the problem areas in these cars, but I'm not sure on how to spot a deal. What can one expect to pay for a Starquest in varying states of condition? Are the examples below good deals? Thanks! http://orlando.craigslist.org/cto/4478951697.html http://miami.craigslist.org/mdc/cto/4445603514.html
  8. I've reade differing opinions on balance shaft removal. One big concern is the harmonic vibrations caused without them. Can anyone shed some light on that aspect of the engine build?
  9. Thank you guys for the warm welcome! I'm no stranger to project cars. I restored a 1967 Mustang shell (had to sell because of a new city "junk" law that didn't allow driveway restorations), and I'm currently rebuilding a 1968 Camaro. I've never owned or worked on a turbo car or anything with fuel injection. Looking forward to the new experiences! I'm always willing to learn and lend a hand; so if I may be of assistance, let me know!
  10. Let me begin by saying that I've never owned a Starion or Conquest (I still don't). My first encounter with one was in 1999/2000 when a buddy came to work with a Fiji Blue TSi. I'd never seen one, and it was his roommate's car (his roomie also had a 3000GT/VR4). I had a '93 Mustang LX hatch and it blew my doors off. I knew I wanted one, but studies came first. Fast forward a few years (14-15h and a co-worker and I were talking about '80s cars and how cool some of them were. I remembered the Conquest and began reading more about them on this and other sites. I've read MANY posts and topics on here, but never officially introduced myself. Until now. I've been looking for a solid Starquest that I can daily drive while I work on, but, at least in my area, everyone seems to be asking a pretty penny for them. I looked at a pretty beat '86 and the owner would not budge off his $3000 asking price. I've seen WAY nicer cars in the classifieds here for MUCH less in price. If anyone has any tips for hunting cars or what to look for, I'm interested! Thanks again, everyone! P.S. My name is Brian.
