Speedy2222
Attempting to convert my already fuel injected kawasaki kfx450r to run microsquirt. From what i can tell it is basically a direct "bolt in" though i am having some trouble understanding the trigger wheel setup and how to define what is already on the quad. I'm definitely jumping the gun a little bit as i havn't touched this stuff since november so i am really rusty right now but i am trying to get the ball rolling so i can get it up and going. I would greatly appreciate any help you guys can provide as this has NEVER been done on this brand of quad before. The big thing i havn't found much on as far as info is accessories that can be driven by the ecu, ie fan, temp lights, items like that. The other item is how do i determine if i can drive the stock KFX fuel injector off the ecu. Here's what i am( well let off at): MS Harness with stock KFX connectors wired onto it. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k181/Speedy2222/KFX450R/Microsquirt/kfxwiring001_zps6ee061a4.jpg Connectivity to the ecu: http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k181/Speedy2222/KFX450R/Microsquirt/unnamed_zps4ad7dd3f.jpg How the quad currently looks, going to do ALOT of work in the next couple days: http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k181/Speedy2222/warrior/rebuild/IMG_20140708_174626437_zps9825a517.jpg
psu_Crash
Do you know the pickup signal pattern that your quad puts out? You can likely use the trigger wheel option in MS and define teeth, triggers, second trigger .. etc.Driving accessories from the MS unit will be the easy part. You just need to figure out what pattern the current ECU sees from the crank/cam triggers. Figure that out and we can help.Very cool project! Speedy2222
Define pickup signal? As in wave form? All i remember( will look into it forsure) is it has two teeth missing and was something MS listed as a trigger setup. In my notes i have listed VR signal style
Speedy2222
Here's a sort of pic of the trigger setup on the flywheel, you can roughly get an idea of that, will take better pics when i can, this one is from a friend http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k181/Speedy2222/KFX450R/Microsquirt/10481591_701638719872382_855728750169531511_n_zpscc6b2b8d.jpg

The other item is how do i determine if i can drive the stock KFX fuel injector off the ecu. There are two relay outputs pre-wired, ALED and WLED, pins 16 and 17 in the harness. You can program those to whatever you want. Beyond that it gets much harder with microsquirt, the processor is capable of more outputs but the hardware isn't really set up for it. Yes, it will drive up to eight injectors. Count the teeth on that flywheel, count the missing teeth as well and then report the total teeth (including missing) AND the number of missing teeth. Put the motor at tdc on the compression stroke and count the number of teeth between the missing tooth(teeth) and the tooth under the crank sensor. The first "real" tooth after the missing teeth is #1. You should be counting in the direction OPPOSITE the crank rotation. Stated another way, the missing teeth should pass the sensor shortly BEFORE the motor gets to TDC on the compression stroke. This is an important number in the setup, called Tooth #1 angle.
