Cowl Rubber Edge Trim Replacement

Thought that I'd share this:

Most know that the rubber trim on the edge of our two piece cowl covers (the rubber that touches the windshield) has been known to seperate, dry rot, and just look ugly over the years.

Of course, Mitsu discontinued the part. So here is what I found as a substitute:

Mcmaster P/N 8507K42. Currently priced at $1.13/ft.

Original trim condition (yours is probably similar):

My starting point: The cowl section on the top is a NIB Mitsu passenger side cowl panel with factory trim. Unfortunately the drivers side is discontinued...hence the reason for this replacement trim. I started with the best drivers side cowel panel I had...cleaned it very good with plastic parts cleaner, scuffed it good with red scotchbrite, re-cleaned, and sprayed two coats of SEM trim black on it. Now to install the trim:

Using 3M weatherstrip adhesive, lay a nice bead on the underside of the cowl:

And slide on the trim....as easy as that. Let it sit overnight to dry.

Final pics (Remember the passenger side is OEM with the factory style trim vs the drivers side with the mcmaster trim). Sorry, not the best install pics...garage was dark, car dusty, lots of glare in the windshield.

The grill trim is still available from Mitsu. The trim around the markers is not. The marker trim will be hard to replicate.

I used a different style trim from mcmaster for the surround around the B pillar vents....I have to look up and see if I still have the part numbers.
