99% Original 1987 “Flatty” Conquest turbo

Quick Info: G54B RWD Turbo. 123K. Color is Lisbo Maroon (R07). Fairly rare color for 87. Maroon leather interior. Automatic. Non-intercooled. Sunroof, Original Everything. Current inspection, although it runs out in a few days (May). Car is completely original and STOCK – no mods. No title issues. Car is located in Lehigh Valley, PA.

Background:

I bought this car last September w/ a blown turbo and some other minor mechanical issues. The guy I bought it from told me it was a 1-owner car originally bought at Rothrock here in PA (still in business). Turbo blew, took it to his mechanic and he told him it wasn’t worth fixing. Mechanic bought it from original owner. The guy I bought it from was a corvette collector. He bought it from the mechanic b/c he “remembered” them from the 80’s. He drove it a few months w/out boost and sold it to me. I have no idea how true or not that story is – that’s just what I was told. I’m sure a Carfax would clear that up – I never ran one. In my eyes, it’s basically a one-owner car b/c it's only changed hands a few times in the last 8 months.

New Parts: New turbo, new feed and return lines. Various coolant lines replaced (due to age), brand new battery, and a new fuel filter included (not installed).

The Good: Car starts easily, idles, and runs well. It is one of the straightest bodied versions of these I’ve seen in a while. Car is completely unmolested. Original 87 front valance (discontinued) is in perfect condition – no cracks. The air diverter panel under the valance is present. Header panel is straight. Original Mitsu key, floor mats, and the funnel was still in the trunk along w/ the jack and tools. Radio works along w/ the antenna and the steering wheel radio buttons. Both pop-up headlights work excellent, all buttons, switches, lights, etc, work. A/C seems to work, but isn’t blowing cold. Probably just needs a recharge. No cracked glass. Exhaust was recently replaced. Fairly new Falken tires.

The (not-so) Bad: The paint on the car is in decent shape (not excessively scratched up or anything), but the clear coat is peeling off on various panels – it’s a shame. There is a dent in the driver’s door below the side mirror. Looks like it got whacked in a parking lot. The leather seats are hard and have age cracks, but there are no tears. There are 3 minor spots of rust. 1 - Passenger rear quarter fender well. 2 – Drivers rear quarter behind the mudflap. 3- Passenger door weld seam – where many of these cars rust. It’s not bad (see pictures) and if it were dealt with now you’d be in good shape. I’ve seen WAAAAY worse. Lastly, the rear wiper doesn’t work.

Overall:

It’s difficult to find one of these complete, let alone running, still original, and with a title. Somebody took great care of this car, and it shows for a 27 year old car. Everything that’s wrong is due to age (not neglect) and is correctable while you enjoy driving it.

Asking $1450 here on the board, I also have the car listed on CL and am asking slightly more there. Cash or money order accepted only. Respond to post with questions so everyone has the answers, PM me if you want to set up a time to look at it. I’m an honest person to deal with – I think you’ll find it’s just the way I described it.

My wife took a bunch of pictures for me (the way a F/S thread should be :D )

Thanks! If I had room for a 3rd one I'd probably keep it, but I hoping somebody on here will give it the love she needs to make her into a head turner.

BTW - does anyone know by looking at the pictures if those are original Flatty mudflaps? I know when mudflaps come up on here some ppl go bonkers for them. I don't know if they are ones the P/O bought and attached, or whether they are from the factory. Just curious for my own knowledge.

So tempting!

I think I remember the original owner of that car...but there were a few of those burg technica's in the valley. I had a friend from highschool who had one as well (in fact, it may be the same car because his dad bought it new and I think he was just using it at the time).

Also, I bought my old 88 esir from rothrock, haha.

I should run the VIN on it and see if I can find out who had it. I still have the email of the guy I bought it off of. Maybe he knows the original owners name. I'll see what he says ....

I did a 5 bolt / 5 speed / intercooler swap on one of these years ago... man was it a fun car. This is temping to do it again, I need to practice self control tho. Sweet car, always loved the maroon.

If it had any color interior except that god awful maroon/red!

Yep, Timmyj has my old Starion beast. The rust on that car wasn't bad at all. No reason to question it's "stability" ;)

Interiors are easy to change .... :P

Agreed ... it was just some cosmetic stuff around the wheel wells if I remember right. I just wondering if patches ever got put in b/c it was such a sweet car.

Looking at your sig Chris it looks like you gave up on that Mustang project you were working on last I talked to you and just bought a sweet BOSS. Nice!

I still have the car you are talking about. Actually I just got started back on it. It was the '67 Mustang GT fastback. I put it on the back burner while hacked up a '68 coupe and made a beautiful '68 fastback out of it. I only did that car to make a few $$. I just sold my '69 Mach 1 and my '66 Mustang convertible. I am now down to just the Boss and the '67 GT. Sooo.. it was time to start back on the '67 GT It has the roof and rear 1/4s off of it right now and is completely gutted. It has become the catch-all of my garage! It has junk piled high in and on it! My basement looks like 10 classic Mustangs exploded down there! lol!

I had not planned to get back in the game but as I was making plans to head down to PF next weekend I started browsing the FS section and found a few interesting cars--yours is one of them. Unfortunately, if I get back into a another SQ it will be an 88/89 widebody that's either black or blue. I just got offered a very solid, stock, rust free, '89 Fiji with a fresh engine rebuild and new brakes/tires that needs paint in the $3k range. I am seriously considering it.

I say go for it. When I paint my Starion (hopefully next year) I'm going to paint it Fiji (or some version of Blue) ... I just love these cars in blue. Good to get an update on you .... I should have called or emailed in the past year ....
