  1. Drugs the Doctor prescribes are not bad then? Sugar? Caffeine? How long until the fatties say food is a drug? Aren't some states legalising pot?, but its a drug! made illegal worldwide because some American with good persuasive skills convinced everyone. So I've just convinced myself that drugs are good and like everything moderation is the key.
  2. O/T but did some 80's Rangers have the 4d55 Mitsubishi diesel engine in the US? A customer of mine has a Landcrusier with over a million kms and still going strong with only regular oil changes. 1hz diesel engine.
  3. What are you guys worried about, the threat is to the rest of us as US corporations pressure countries (or use court action) to get their way then control markets. One example, our country buys all medicines in bulk then subsidises or provides its citizens them for nothing. Big pharma does not want this it wants to market and sell directly to us. They can get ****ed. They will use international courts to over power a country. Another is tobacco companies taking countries to court over their laws regarding trademarks etc with regards to plain packaging.
  4. 2.3 revs better. Can buy new rockers individually, I only said you can do that as the vehicles they are in here are worth virtually nothing so mostly now we only patch fix them as it makes no sense to fully recondition them anymore.
  5. I always add a little more tension after running them a while, the 4d55 have a warning light to tell when they're loose. 80,000km max on timing belts, luckily if it breaks you can get away with just replacing just 4 inlet rockers. Twin v-belt van engine by the looks, they go well. I use the old non wastegate 4d55 turbo setup on ours but regret swapping to the 2.5. All parts are easy to get new still or were last time I checked, Hyundai even do a new complete engine, gates are my preferred belts on these or Mitsi genuine.
  6. Spitfire eh, if its a US spec car why not remove all the pollution stuff to euro spec and it'll go better and use less fuel. Can't believe you haven't heard of a 4age but even those no torque wonders will kill the stupid transverse spring rear end. It'll go like hell though. (who would use a transverse spring, oh wait lol but at least the poms stopped 40 years ago) You'll never stop it without good brake mods also. Sr20de guzzle more than the turbo versions and no one would use a KA for anything but a work truck. I'd tune the factory engine because the money you spend to fit a different engine/gearbox/diff/brakes would buy a heap of fuel.
  7. That's rare even though there was quite a few of those models here. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m121/KiwiStarion/newstarion.jpg Our UK spec cars sold new here.
  8. They have been unavailable in Japan as long as I have owned these cars, 15 years + I get them rebuilt locally not expensive or difficult, same as getting ball joints rebuild for vintage cars. Not ideal but better than nothing.
  9. An Eclipse a Japanese car? The rest are Japanese and still quite common here, Starion being the rarest. You could buy them all in good condition for about $10-15 US thousand. (not each, all) The Nissan Pulsar GTiR is a total crapheap, Prelude Type s has the same power as a Silvia Turbo (Sr20det) the Subaru pictured ain't turbo and the twin turbo VR-4 is over rated.
  10. I use the term "risking it" not in that I don't think usual stuff will work just fine more in that using the factory recommended stuff is safer as its an engine out strip down affair if it (or I) fail. I've used a Loctite one before that I didn't notice was slightly after its use by date, won't make that mistake again. As for the trans pan if using a gasket (not cork or rubber) I use only a very thin smear to hold it in place rather than sealing it, otherwise as said throw the gasket and just use the sealant but be careful not to use too much you don't want it squeezing out inside the trans. With the Soarer (sc400) make sure the leak isn't from the dipstick tube which may have been tweaked when removing the pan in the first place. It is the most common place I see them leaking.
  11. Donut shop bit is cool. Man that city looks awesome and those highways wow, could be super confusing for someone used to two lanes tops lol. I don't like the car though, well I don't like to body shape they have used everything else is sweet.
  12. I use the Toyota genuine stuff on Toyotas, it is now black. (and now on old British stuff and all sumps because it is awesome) but it is spendy. $90 our money so maybe 40 quid for a tube. Says you have 3 minutes before it gets tacky. As good as the usual stuff is the amount they use from the factory and the size of the front timing chain covers I don't bother risking it.
  13. They're difficult to break you can see the large spring so they just snap back into place. One of those things I just threw away (along with the vented bonnets) as nobody would want them. Then things started going retro and all the young guys want this stuff now. Think one of my pairs may have ended up over in the US though.
  14. Mitsubishis of the era include Colt, Lancer, Galant, Canter.... I've seen the horse head emblem on Japanese keys for the car. Never knew Eclipse was named after a horse, not a car we get here.
