1981 Volkswagen Caddy

So yesterday I traded my 88 Mazda B2200 pickup, blown headgasket and needed a waterpump, straight up for the Caddy. It runs awesome but has some rot in the passenger floor board and misc spots of the body. It came with a ton of patches panels for the rusted body panels (rear wheel wells, rear wheel arches, A pillar, 2 front fenders) but I have to figure out how to attack the floorboard. I figured it doesn't matter about the rust if I'm trading a nondrivable car for a driveable one. Now I just need to get some 3" drop plates and she'll be ready to go and to slowly fix=) I'll get some pics up as soon as I get it cleaned up and lookin shnazzy=P

Here's a teaser=) I took the front bumper off on Sunday and a small chin spoiler is on the way for now.

I'm hunting down a large 2 piece duckbill but that'll take some time. I'll put up more pics once I get the 3"

drop plates made.

true dat=) Thanks Tech

does anyone know if I could use these lowering springs on the front?

I need a cheap set instead of cutting the springs. I have a feeling

that they won't work because they don't fit the cabriolet.

that'd be fun=P If I were to swap it, I'd probably go with a 16 valve. And I'm lowering it a bit and running 13's with stretched tires=) The passenger side floorboard has a few holes, but it isn't unfixable. It runs super good though. I changed the waterpump this weekend and that was a treat. Snapped 6 bolts off, got all but 1 out, and had to drill and tap that hole for a new bolt. Then I got the wrong pump because of the guy at advance, hub was too small. But now it's all together again. And it has a wolfsburg steering wheel, no carpet, paint??? on the seats, and no radio or speakers. lol

The previous owner wired up a manual toggle switch for the cooling fan, but used a cheap plastic one. Yesterday I went to turn it off and sure enough the switch wouldnt turn off, so I had to keep unplugging it. When I took the leads off the thing was HOT and one of the terminals was just gunked with a red lubricant (dielectric lube?) But I went and bought a nice heavy duty metal toggle switch and put it in and it looks a ton better, and the fan runs a ton stronger too. I think the old switch was shorting out. And the past 2 days, it runs crazy lean on idle for the first 10 minutes or so. It doesn't do it when warming up (idle after starting it) and it doesn't do it while it's in gear. Only while coasting out of gear or stopped for the first bit of driving. It ran so lean a few times that it died on me=/ When I get to work (30 minute drive) it idles really well like usual, but the first few stops after leaving my house it runs like poo. What do you guys think could be causing this?

I'm buying this set of wheels to put on:

What size tires could I stretch on to give it a good look?

The small chin spoiler came. I just need to straighten the front out more and then put it on. Here's a test fit of sorts

I'm also in the middle of making a headliner because someone lost it through the years. Hopefully that'll be done and in tonight=)

More Progress...Friday I was looking for a nice set of wheels with newish tires so

that I didn't get stuck with the tarantulas and new tires. Well I stumbled across

some XXR 522's with new Nexxen tires for $450. Damn good price. I picked them up

Saturday and they're almost perfect. Just one wheel has slight curb rash because

the guy let his GF drive his car and she said she "Wasn't used to driving with tires

pokin out the side". lol Here are a few shots after I got home with them and then

mounted. Definately needs more low ^_^

Nice Allis. My parents had a 70's Allis-Chalmers Big10 (looks to be almost identical to your B110). they still have it, but it shattered it's connecting rod some 15 years ago now.

They even have a front end loader for it.

As for the caddy, I say find some wheel arch flares instead of adding camber. Still needs to go lower though

I think I may just let them stick out without any added flare=) maybe roll the fenders a bit. I'm not a fan of buying tires all the time=P And my Allis still cuts the lawn frequently in summer. I did a restore of the body a little while back, but one of the wheels is just caked with grass and detroyed the paintjob...I need to use the paint I have left over to touch up spots and then get a new stickerpack and seat for it=P

I'll go as low as I can without risking sending the tire up into the fender=) should I leave around and inch and then have a bump stop in there to keep if from going any farther up in travel? And for $450 with tires, they're pretty bad=P
