Remlor
I am replacing my head with a nonjet, and I need the correct torque setting for the bolts. I also would like to know if I should torque the bolts on the cam as well. Yes I am using ARP head studs, the gasket I will have to check in the morning. Thanks In Advance Remlor
JAinsworth
The two small head bolts are 11-15 lbs. The larger bolts are 65-72...cold, 73-79...hot Cam Bearing caps...14-15 Cam sprocket bolts...37-43 The tightening sequence on the head bolts are, with the 11s being the smaller two in front: 11--8-6-1-3-911-10-4-2-5-7 Jimmy
mitsustarion
Nice JAinsworth!! Just a question! What head gasket are you running? And what bolts? (new stock or ARP)? Some head gaskets are a little different in tourque specs. If you have a MLS gasket it's a little more and the ARP's are a little diff. too! Just asking? JAinsworth
Nice JAinsworth!! Just a question! What head gasket are you running? And what bolts? (new stock or ARP)? Some head gaskets are a little different in tourque specs. If you have a MLS gasket it's a little more and the ARP's are a little diff. too! Just asking? Those are factory specs for a stock engine. The ARPs are higher and even with them it's different using 30W oil or moly lube. Jimmy

Elkidmino
I think since JAinsworth did such a good job with that post, this should be moved to the FAQ section... 8)

mstieg
Forgive me for not remembering, but what difference on torque specs does the 10W30 oil make vs. the moly lube? Raise or lower the specs a bit for each?
JAinsworth
It is more if you use motor oil. http://arp-fasteners.com/catalog/catalog.html Page 24. Jimmy
Caliber308
Forgive me for not remembering, but what difference on torque specs does the 10W30 oil make vs. the moly lube? Raise or lower the specs a bit for each? I always use white assembly lube. Heres the specs: Tighten in sequence according to the FSM in a two step process. The sequence is in the FSM page 9-23. ARP Head studs are tighten to 90 foot pounds. So tighten them to 70 in the sequence according to the FSM. Then go back and tighten them to 90 foot pounds still using the same sequence in the FSM. Dad
This is a copy of the sheet that ARP included in the 2074202 head stud box..... ( April 2008) 80 lbs with ARP MOLY ASSEMBLY LUBE. or 120 lbs with 30 wt oil. As per the instructions- DO NOT USE ANY OTHER MOLY LUBE or head gasket failure can result. http://www.enginemachineservice.com/2074202spec.jpg Dad

Can you back that up with anything more than just an opinion? Dad
