no its a mix of mdf fiberglass and i think pvc for the amp rack and cryo 2. maybe even a water feature.

as for weight a hundred lbs only equates to about a fraction of a second in a quater mile and being there will be a 2jz swap (hopping for 680hp) it will be just fine for street and occational strip.

I was never one for stripping down a car for the sake of speed. for those who do it its fine but a frame with a seat isnt in my book a car. lol I want my heat i want my AC I want my sounds so if i sacrifice a couple of tenths im ok with that.

Yeah, the numbers I heard was that 100 pounds equals a tenth of a second on the track. I'm not sure how much I believe that because my system only added 300 pounds, and my car is at least a half second slower, probably closer to 3/4 of a second. I don't really care tho, my car is more for winning audio classes at shows, than going fast.

Try and use the MDF where you can. it is actually lighter than fiberglass because it is less dense and uses lighter components than fiberglass matting/resin. Also, where you do use fiberglass, make sure it is at least a 3/8-1/2" thick. Much thinner than that, and the fiberglass will flex which will give you a "looser" box, and couold possibly crack down the road. The fiberglassing I did on my box was more cosmettic than structure. I used MDF for the main box, then used the FG to get the contours I couldn't with MDF.

Ok so after many drinks I had to come to terms with scrapping the floating amp rack. Just no space. So the amps will cascade down the center of the back seat. Even now im having trouble with the rear rings and clearence. I think I will have to go down 245/35/16. Speaking of wheel wells, did you guys know the damn wheel well is off center?? there is more "meat" on the drivers side floor.

So the winter has been kiling me (no heat in the garage). after many beers and many cursing fits I have to trash the 6 sub set up and go back down to 4. there is just no room keeping the spare for them. the roof is comming along fine. it was my first time using expandable foam and i must say this stuff is great. pictures to follow.

I'll wait to say for sure until I see it done before I say much.

I know you're going for looks more than sound, but with a little more work and a bigger speaker pod area, you could get a lot better sound. As it is now you don't have hardly any airspace behind those mid drivers.

The componet set on the roof wont need air space, there is about cup full of volume behind the mids and the tweets dont need it. They are mainly for front fill. There are still a pair of 6 inch 3 ways in the stock door location. and another 3 way set by the rear passenger head and the four subs in the back, trust me the roof is fine. my worry is the 2jz alt after the swap I wonder if it is up to the task even with the extra batt. Pretty much all car audio speakers need airspace, with the exception of compnent tweeters. A "cup" worth of airspace behind a mid woofer like that just won't be enough. Low notes from those speakers will probably just sound like a bunch of pops, unless you put it on a crossover and run no low range thru it at all. At that point, why even have a midwoofer? It wouldn't be as big of a deal if the speaker placement was different, but you're gonna hear every sound out of it(bad and good) with a speaker that high and close to your ears. Having sound up that high and close will also throw of your staging and imaging.

I'm not trying to criticise, just letting you know some info in advance so you can use it to get the best sound if you want. Having spent 3 years doing nothing but custom car audio instals and over 5 years competing in audio contests, I can tell you there are rules you have to stick to in order to have stellar sound. As it is, we often have to find a happy medium between following the rules and having something cool and custom. Sometimes you sacrifice a little sound quality to put some speakers in a really cool place, or to use minimal airspace, but there's always a limit with what you can get away with. I always try to lean a little more to sound quality than for looks, but I think you're probably leaning the other way. That's cool, it's your system to do whatever with, and kudos for trying to do something really custom. I'm sure it won't necessarily sound bad, but with a few tweaks to speaker placement and enclosure size, it could sound great.

Hey Burton, mind if I PM you with a couple of audio/wiring SQ questions pertaining to a 12" I have laying around?

Nope, PM away!

I may not be able to answer you right away tho. I'm about to head out to my part time gig working on RVs.

Burton, They are not mid bass they are deticated mids from components the eq is set to mid pass for them. As always I placed all the speakers in the locations (except for the subs) before starting they sounded fine and that was free air. in a cockpit that small placement is almost not a worry. If I remember my dj days correctly its a totem pole efffect with sounds lows near the bottom mids mid level and highs toward the sky lol. But again it wont matter much in a cockpit that small. living room maybe concert hall maybe but not there. As for sound my mids dont sound tinny my highs in the three way however when the volume is up cant take it but they are removable we will see.

In the end as you say its up to me. My last system you found issue and it sounded great (according to you could have sound better but I was cool with what it was) and this system im guessing will be just as fine if not better (thanks to an extra batt better head unit and better cables).

Thanks for the imput though.

Extra batt tray. It will be re-enforced with resin I just had to mock up the back board that will complete the tire well in the back.
