Saw on fb that Randy is closing the doors on his business. Selling off all his equipment. So sad.

Something about the rent going up to the point that it's no longer profitable to run the business. At least, that's what I read.

From what I read....

New building owners. Raised lease 22%. Randy said no. Now he's selling off equipment because moving is expensive, and he doesn't have another location lined up.

As far as selling parts, he said it will be halted temporarily.

Tough situation, and he's still a few years away from retirement he mentioned as well...

Precision machining is hard to come by these days.
Now it is gonna b even harder to find quality machining in that area, I am sure.

He was planning on buying the building and was waiting to hear back about his offer, but the owners sold it to someone else without telling him. He didn't know until the new owner came in one day and mentioned about rent going up. Plus the terms of the lease weren't favorable either.

Hes quite stressed with trying to handle closing his business and selling off equipment within a short time period. Closing his business of 31 years takes its own emotional toll as well. I will say though that the positive words from the starquest community are certainly a ray of sunshine on a gloomy day.

Thank you My friends,  yes Bill ( coldscrip) is correct,   Right now  my only focus is selling off the machinery  and equipment and vacating the building, Diane and I spoke about keeping the parts sales for quest going, but will decide that  when things settle down.

This has to be the biggest blow to our little SQ community in the last 20 years ... Not to mention the toll it must be taking and you and Diane!
Randy, you have always been beyond great with service, parts or just helpful advice. We all wish there was a way you could work it out with the new owners. I get it though, in the end it is a business and when it isn't profitable anymore you have to do what you have to do.

Very unfortunate news..... I remember back in the day when DAD rescued my yellow SQ, took it to the shop where he, Bill and I worked over the weekend to have it back on the road toward Seattle by Monday morning..... simply amazing!!

I can appreciate how disruptive losing your shop can be to the business...... I had a shop fire on Thanksgiving and had to vacate the building myself..... 2 SQ cars got smoked.

Damn! Sorry to hear Dad.  I have several customers in the same ordeal here in L.A.  But owners are way more vicious here, I have 2 clients whose commercial rent was DOUBLED from one month to the next. It was basically pay or get TFO!
