Well i bought this car a while ago, and just started really getting into it so i figured id go ahead and start a build up/progress thread.

To start with its a 1989 Non-SHP 5 speed Conquest, hence the fiji color. I had always wanted a fiji, so I bought the car here in Ga for $600. The motor needed rebuilt and was out of the car. It came with some goodies, like a Greddy Turbo timer and Elec. boost Controller, some guages and some other stuff i cant recall. Heres what it looked like the day i went to put a deposit on it.

And one of the few pics of the interior, which is the unusually nice seat. (It had been recovered)

and the other

And then this is what it looked like sitting in my backyard for im not sure how long, lets just say a few months.

During that time (the sitting in my backyard period) I met up with Jon Burgess (Jonboyb) about rebuilding the engine for me. Major thanks go out to him for all his help and advice. I ended up going with a full rebuild including some Pauter rods, Wiseco Pistons, and an oringed Marnal head that i purchased assembled from Randy.

Here are some pics of and pertaining to that.

And then some clean up of the engine bay ensued, including a quick repaint of the frame rails. I found out Duplicolor Old Ford Blue Engine Enamel is just about the same exact color as fiji engine bays. Convenient. I also freshened up some things with some gloss black.

Some other goodies made their way in. That included a fidanza flywheel, new clutch slave and master, ACT HD clutch kit, New OEM Exhaust manifold stress relieved and heat coated, *DM 3" turbo back exhaust, 83 hood, and all the bits and pieces that bring it all together. Not all shown but you get the idea.

Well it doesnt look like a whole lot and i wish things were going a bit faster but here we are... Lower Shores lines installed, S16G, accessories mounted with new belts, new injector clips soldered in, etc etc.

I think most of my time was spent going the 12 miles to and from the only hardware store around here that carries metric fasteners in 1.25 thread pitch. Seems like every time i go to mount something the bolts are missing, so needless to say most of the hardware is new.

  • 2 weeks later...

Youre a funny guy Jon. :P

Ill be posting some updates soon.

Ive been polishing out the rest of my wheels and this and that. I know "chrome wont get you home", but the good tires on that set will. ;)

Got my hardpipes in, and got the stopper for my clutch pedal from Jimmy so all that is going in and wrapping up, and Ive got to get this exhaust to the shop. Its a coming...

Little Update:

Got the modified downpipe back and installed

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/mrn_89/DSCN1506.jpg

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/mrn_89/DSCN1508.jpg

Installed both my Autometer boost and oil pressure gauges.

In between then and now the car has been started and bugs have been being worked out.

Hung the rest of the exhaust today minus the Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. Relatively tight fit for a 3"

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/mrn_89/DSCN1522.jpg

Shot of the engine bay currently.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/mrn_89/DSCN1525.jpg

Its pretty much all there thats going to be. Got to get the oil seperator back in there and hooked up. As well as the brake booster vac hose. Little crap like that.

Then its on to the last wheel to be polished, tires back to an inflatable state, and either the old airdam rigged up or my new one in white gel coat mounted on the car. Ugly as sin without it.

Well I got alot done again this weekend. I got my idle/throttle issue pretty much taken care of thanks to Grant (pure_insanity) for a good used TPS and ISC. I also got my oil separator setup in, and my brake booster hooked up. Drove the car up the street a couple times, all seems to be well. Changed the oil for the first time, clean as it gets. Got my good wheels and tires remounted and balanced and on the car as well as a pretty sketchily mounted old airdam as a temporary setup to get me to and from PF looking halfways decent. LOL

Oh yeah, come to find out when i put the car up for oil change/wheel swapout, the swaybar was just hanging by a thread. Heres the hardware it started with...thats ALL there was

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/mrn_89/DSCN1529.jpg

changed out to this Hardware store Energy suspension setup. Actually turned out pretty nice, especially for the availability and price.

http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f268/mrn_89/DSCN1530.jpg

Couple of small things tomorrow, and ill be on the road.

Was dark when i finished, pics to come tomorrow.

i actually got them from summit. but all they are are 21mm (my car is an 89) universal bushings by Energy Suspension, which you can usually find at autozones and such. they fit the stock brackets pretty well. Edited by livesTSI
