  1. Hey man, I'm interested in the injectors and BOV for my 88 Quest, but not sure they will work for me. I bought the car with a racing head and 14G turbo. Not too many other goodies. It had some issues and sat for two years before I could get it back on the road. Now, it seems like the small injector works fine, but when I get above 3k or so it just peters out. We think the BOV may be bad now too. It's attached to an aftermarket chrome pipe. So here are my questions: Can you tell me if these things are pretty much universal or not? In other words, can I buy just your BOV, or do I need the hard pipe too? Also, do you know for sure that ur injectors are good? Will they work in my aftermarket head and 14G? Lastly, depending on what you think might work for me, can you let me know how much you need for these? thx much John Roche
  2. Appreciate it! I'll give it a try
  3. Bump... for a good mechanic in Atlanta area.
  4. Hey Guys, I need a couple of good half shafts / CV axles for the rear of my 89 Quest. I appreciate the help!
  5. Hey Frenchi...Stockbridge is only about 40 minutes from me. Do you know any really good mechanics that would be willing to take a look at my Quest?
  6. I forgot to update my signature with the specs of my 88. Will do it asap.
  7. I have an 88 Quest with a fairly new build when I bought it. On the coldest day of the year it was about 15 Degrees outside, and when I started the car it immediately died. Long story short is that I had it towed to a shop and they said when they got it started it was burning coolant, like a head gasket issue. But they couldn't confirm it with a compression test, or coolant in the oil, etc. When I got it home I found that the exhaust manifold was completely full of coolant. I have tested the turbo, and don't believe that any seals are bad there. Just not sure where to go now, and have too many other projects. I sure would appreciate a good reference for a very competent mechanic. I'm in Fayetteville, Ga. 30215. thx
  8. How about the rear 6-bolt half shafts? Are they still on the car, and do you know if the boots are wasted or not? thx man
  9. For my 89 Quest... I need the passenger side front dust boot that goes over the coil spring, and the "helper boot" and rubber seat for the helper boot if possible. I also need all boots and rubber seats for both rear wheels, if anybody has them laying around. Thx much
  10. Definitely I smell burning coolant right away. The shop said that they saw coolant leaking from the "exhaust seams". I guess I'll go back to them and ask exactly what they meant by that. (manifold, flanges, etc) That statement about seeing coolant dripping from "exhaust seams" is messing with me. If it was a head gasket, or the intake manifold, or even throttle body gasket.. you'd think that any coolant would be vaporized by the time it got to the exhaust manifold. That's why I asked them if they thought it could possibly be the turbo leaking coolant into the exhaust manifold. But then they reminded me that if the turbo was leaking the coolant into the exhaust, you probably wouldn't get the white smoke immediately. That's a good point. Any thoughts? (I work 12-hr shifts on the weekends, so I won't be able to tear into it until Mon/Tues) Thanks guys!
  11. Hey Guys, I just got my 88 Quest, with about 30k on a rebuild. The dude just put on a new head within the last 1000 miles or so.. an aftermarket one, without Jet Valves. I had put 500 miles or so on the car when....on a VERY cold morning I went to start it and it fired and then died. I could never get it started and all of the ignition stuff looked good, so I had a local shop look at it. They found that the plugs were the "splitfire" kind, and they were fouled, with a lot of fuel in the cylinders. They swapped them with regular plugs (but probably wrong heat range for the big turbo on it), and then it started up and ran good. BUT IMMEDIATELY BLEW CLOUDS OF WHITE SMOKE. dang. Most of this motor is almost new, so I'm wondering how the head gasket could have given it up so fast. Compression is good in all cylinders, and I found that after the car has reached operating temperatures the smoke almost completely goes away. Given the fact that it smokes IMMEDIATELY after I start the car, wreaks of burnt coolant, and quits when the engine is hot... do you guys agree that I might as well plan to swap the head gasket? If so, any hints on what brand of new gasket to use, any gotchas to watch out for, etc? Thanks much!!
