gabea101
Just got my a/c running and I noticed when I make a left turn that some water started leaking by the passenger feet area now. I took the plastic cover off to check it and I could not find anything. The a/c and heater still works fine. I also opened the hood and noticed the a/c going to the firewall was frozen...is this normal?Do you know what this could be?
ucw458
The condensate drain is plugged. The evaporator coil (inside coil) gets cold like a glass of icewater. The moisture in the air condenses on that coil and collects in the housing. If the drain is blocked the water can only escape when it sloshes out while turning. Clear the drain and you wont have water inside the car anymore. The frozen line is either low airflow. Could be from the clogged drain line drowning part of the coil. Or a slightly low charge. I know it sounds odd but a slightly low charge allows the refrigerant to evaporate too quickly after it leaves the TXV. That causes the evap coil to drop below freezing and you get ice buildup. Low airflow could be from a faulty blower, excess water in the evap housing or dirt on the evap coil. Fix the clogged drain first. If the blower is working fine then you can have the AC system checked for a low charge. It doesn't happen often to cars but you can get enough dirt, leaves ect to block airflow to the coil. To check that you must remove the blower and look inside the evap housing. The coil fins are delecate so clean with a paintbrush and a vacuum. scott87star
^^^. You'll find the drain line by pulling the carpet back from the firewall on the passenger footwell, its a little more towards the driver from center. Pull out the line from the floor and you should find a copper thing on the end of the rubber line. Clean that out, let the water flush through it (into a bucket) and then you can press it back into the hole in the floor.
