teknician1971
Hello I'm trying to repair my 86 Dodge conquest.. I blew the head on it in 2004 and haven't driven it since. I have all the parts needed to repair it I'm just wondering if anybody can recommend a shop in Baltimore or Washington DC that works on Starquests.... Basically this thing needs to be rebuilt again and I don't want to waste my time with anybody who doesn't know this car.
tux
ECS tuning i think was in maryland and they used to work on starions. You'll be hard pressed to find a shop that specializes in them though. I'd just find an engine builder and let them at it, unless you want to do it yourself.
kev
Not really. Gone are the days where certain shops knew these cars. They are just too old and rare. The head is an easy fix though and doesn't require much 'starquest' specific knowledge. But there may be problems that will surface from it sitting for so long. Also, you always have to ask why did the head go. I'm assuming it cracked? If so, what caused it to overheat? The usual occurrence is an electric fan didn't come on but you may need to put some attention into the entire coolant system..especially the fans. tux
yea... clogged radiator, bad fan motors, bad fan switches, bad thermostat, bad fan relays, not enough fuel (lean afr), boost set too high
860QuestTuner
Hopefully water/coolant wasn't sitting in cyclinders. That would most likely require a tear down and hone or bore. Getting a copy of the service manual and doing some labor yourself can help educate what to expect when getting a shop to work on the engine. Finding a old import specialist garage that have a few old guys working there would be a good bet that they know the car.😁
