4G63Star
Hello Folks. Any of you ever use aN A-904 Torqueflight tranny for a swap?
strang3majik
no...but once I pull the 318 and tranny out of my cuda...Ill sell you its 904 cheap Id just go ahead and use a 727 if I was going that route. But, then again, 904s are lighter, and can be built up pretty strong too.
MikeMeyerhoff
There supposidly is a bellhousing for the 904 to a G54b. Maybe somebody will post some info? And yes the 904 can be built up nicely.
StarquestRescue
I believe the A904 was only made in a narrow block version. I think one upper bolt hole is slightly off from the newer 4g63 type narrow pattern. It was found in 86 and older rwd imports. There was a 4wd version used in pickups and monteros, 86 and older. Indiana
The tranny you are talking about was only cast as one piece, the bellhousing doesn't come off so a tranny from a v8 isn't going to help. This is the part where you can get either the wide or narrow versions. Its referred to as the "baby" case 904. The guts are the same, some part at the back is different and yes they have things like manual valve bodies and transbrakes for a 904 and the parts are so so cheap and I suppose most can rebuild them with their eyes closed BUT finding one is difficult, they are only in the late 70s- early 80s vehicles. When they went to the Jatco it was only a wide version. The is also supposed to be, but I've not seen one, a narrow block 2.6 for rwd. We've pulled one a few years ago with its 2.0 from a truck for a project that isn't up yet to use that auto and a dohc swap and a 2.4 crank. Only so much time in a day. 4G63Star
Thanks Guys for the insight in your responces. I am thinking of finding an A-500 which is the OD version of the A-904 but has a .69 4th gear.
Bill Hincher
are you scincere about building a wide block adaptor to the A-904 Torqueflight ? what are the advantages? and what exact model do you want to use?
4G63Star
I am working very slowly but surely to buy/build a Pro-Street Starion/Conquest powered by a 4G63T motor the first step is knowledge. Hence the questions and yes I am sincere just not affulent. I have heard the A-904 fits the trans tunnel of this car but a A-727 requires some finessing. Will I buy the car soon I don't know. I have a garage to spend $ on 1st so I have a place to put the project to begin with. If next year is the year I have heard about in terms of existing home sales& home loans I will getting to my objective earlier.
