Currently running a 3 inch in/out magnaflow muffler with 3 inch exhaust and no cat. It's essentially a straight through muffler. Looking for something considerably quieter. Quiet generally means restrictive, so that is my dilemma. Anybody have a fairly quiet muffler they are happy with. I am currently looking at the DynoMax Super Turbo muffler, but concerned it still might be too loud.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dave

I have a
thrush glass pack
23.5 inch bullet muffler
And a
WLK17223
From summitracing.
No drone BUT still loud straight through.
Yes all 3 on the car at the same time currently.

I have this one I am going to try. Flows like 850 CFM. This will replace the wlk17223.
Read the specs.

I am running a 3" exhaust with a 3" strait-pipe out, no muffler. Only thing i have inline is a flex-pipe just after turbo. my car is amazingly quiet considering no cat and no muffler. might help you to add a flex pipe.

A vibrant ultra quiet resonator will definitely quiet things down. Install it after the rear subframe to prevent the packing from burn out

Thanks for the suggestions. I am looking to quiet it down some. Tired of announcing my departure and arrival to the neighbors late at night.

I do have a flex section in the downpipe. I just put a new Magnaflow on to replace the ten-year old Magnaflow I had on the car. I thought a newer version of the same muffler would be quieter. I was wrong, sounded exactly the same as the old one.

I may try a resonator between the down pipe and Magnaflow muffler to see if that will help. Just not sure if the resonator will make it any quieter. I think the resonators are to eliminate drone inside the car. The upside is it would be easier and cheaper to install then replacing the muffler and getting a new muffler tip lined up again. I welded everything, so its kind of labor intensive to cut, grind and re-weld on a new muffler.

Why not use a more restrictive muffler and resonator, then add a cutout.

Magnaflow is not extremely loud. It has a deepish tone.

I have a 3" straight through Magnaflow muffler on my car.  It is really quiet at idle but when you get on it, it gets pretty loud.  I also have a 1JZ swap so it will be a little different.

https://www.summitra...11219/overview/

When I first bought the car, it had a dynamax muffler on it.  Im not sure what it was, but it was really quiet.  So quiet actually that I could not hear the exhaust note and cut it off in favor of a straight pipe.  lol

A resonator or glasspack where the cat used to be is a good way to mellow out the sound and keep the straight thru setup. That QTP cutout is nice too, I sold one here years ago.
