87 Conquest LE Atlantic Blue. The car was intercooled by penick (one of the members on this board). It is a 5 speed with 145,400 miles. Car runs good and strong up over 5000 rpms. No hesitations, no bucking. It has black velour interior that is slightly faded and one or two burn holes in the seats. The rear seat has a seam that is coming apart.

(Before bodywork was started)

I bought the car in 11/2002 with 144,700 miles. Before I put it on the road in 4/03 I installed a throttle body rebuild kit, a good set of injectors, a new fuel pump (higher flow Master pump), new spark plugs, a used master cylinder, cut front and rear rotors, new front and rear brake pads, lubed front wheel bearings, bled brakes, checked fluid level in trans and rear, replaced radiator drain plug and o-ring, new wipers, replaced passenger taillight socket assembly, scanned for codes (none), reset TPS/ISC, replaced wastegate vac line w/ 3mm silicon line, plugged in 88/89 ECU, and replaced the vacuum advance.

In 2/2004 I took the car to a local college to have all of the bodywork and rust repair done and have it painted. They didn’t finish the car before the end of the semester so I took the car home and parked it in the garage. A few months later my friend brought his welder out and we cut out the rust, made new panels, and welded them in place. We replaced a section in front of the rear wheel well on the passenger side, a section of the rocker panel below the passenger side door, and a small section behind the rear wheel well on the driver’s side. I have been trying to do the finishing work on the passenger side but haven’t had time and have lost interest.

The car has a few dings around the entire body, some have been filled others haven’t. The car is not all one color, it has spots of filler and spots of primer.

(pics from 2 years ago during bodywork at college)

Things that still need to be done/fixed/addressed:

Finish bodywork and paint

Could use a set of tires, has non matching ones on front, and winter treads on back

Front spoiler needs crack repair and paint

Tape deck does not work (but radio works fine including antenna)

Radio bezel is cracked (may have a spare one)

Radio control on steering wheel don’t work

Slight play in steering wheel

Exhaust system needs repair (will include stock 88/89 system)

Extras included with the car will be:

83 mud flaps (not installed)

88/89 computer

88/89 igniter box (not installed)

two spare rims

one spare tire rim

spare trim

emblems

other related narrowbody only items

Car has not been inspected since 3/04 but after sitting for a year and a half, started right up and ran good. It should pass state inspection with minor work. It has been garage kept since I have owned it. I only made 1 major trip with it to Carlisle (2 hours each way) and it ran great. I have never seen the temp gauge go over ½. It runs extremely cool.

Asking $1200, car is located in Williamsport, PA 17701. Need to sell soon so I can bring home my new toy.

Other pictures can be seen at: http://www.26liter.us/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=80

I will try to get more recent pics soon.

Forgot to add, AC is in need of a charge, so the AC belt has been removed. Car has a clean PA title.

absolutily one of the rarest conquests ever made... took me 6 years to find a 5 speed white 87 flatside.

Most 87 flatside cars were technica automatics with the digital dash (this is from my research) and the very rare atlantic blue on top of the other rarities is unheard of. This car may be the only one ever made like it and at worst only a handful ever existed.

sorry to hijack but this car will make someone very happy

I took more pictures last night and added them at the website listed above.

Also wanted to add that the AC needs to be recahraged, the belt has been removed by the previous owner. The driver's side frame rail also appears to be a little soft. I haven't had a chance to put the car up in the air to see how bad it is yet. I will be trying to finish the bodywork where I had to weld in new panels during the next couple weeks. I will also be putting the climate controls and radio back in.

If anyone has any questions or would like to see more pictures let me know. Thanks.

Brett

I can vouch for this car.

It is a good running and nice LE. It's only problem when bought was that every piece of sheet metal had a little ding in it at one place or another. As if the car was parked in a garage with things setting on it. Hence the reason why the bodywork was started.

This car had hardly any rust on it! The rocker panels are next to perfect! The floorboards right next to the rocker are perfect without a spec of rust! There was one spot on the passengerside rocker that use to be rusted due to a dent that raised some metal and started to rust. This was cut out and a new patch piece was welded in. The patch piece was a piece of an 86 starion cut to fit exactly like original. There was also two other small rusted areas: the passenger quarter lip and the drivers rear quarter (near where a mud flap would go). Both of these areas have been repaired. The bondo work just needs to be finished in these few areas where the metal work was done. After this bondo is smoothed out, the car only needs a once over with the DA and it is ready for primer. Oh you have a little work to do on the front spoiler. Brett mentioned that the one frame rail appears soft, I did not notice that when he bought the car. It appeared solid then. (The car has been garaged kept for the past 3 years or so).

I did all the weld work on this car. When welding the quarter lip on the passengerside, the sheet metal shrunk in a bit thus requiring a little bit more bondo on than I anticipated (you can see this in one of his pictures), but it is not bad (~1/8" thick in the deepest spot). There is NO rust under that bondo or under any bondo on this car! This car will not take too much more work to be ready for primer/base/clear.

I actually wanted to spray this car when Brett finished the bodywork. I wanted to paint it just to gain bit more experience before I start to spray color on my restoration. But I don't really have the time due to a new addition to my family.

Also note that the bondo used is Evercoat Rage Gold, I personally feel this is the best bondo created. It costs about $35 a gallon and is what I am using exclusively on the restoration of my 87 tsi. Its easy to sand and it holds up forever. All the bondo work that the college did was covered in brushable epoxy. This etches any exposed metal from the bodywork and prevents rust. Leave this brushable epoxy on! Just smooth it out nice with the DA prior to your 2K primer!

This car's engine runs like a top. I helped Brett tune it in a year or so ago and it probably has 200 miles if that since we tuned it! This car is definitely a sleaper! It will pull just like an 88/89 tsi with the intercooler, ECU, etc.

The black cloth interior is nice too. The engine compartment is nice and clean as seen in the pics.

Somebody grab this car and get her looking new again! Its a rare fun car and the perfect sleaper. Also note that he is adding the flatbody mudflaps which look nice on these cars.

Feel free to send me a pm if you want to hear anymore info on this car. I'll be happy to answer them. Brett of course knows his car best but I spent some time on it as well.

Thanks for the additional info kev. He definitely knows this car since we spent an entire weekend just doing the weld work. All of the rust repair that we did was done right. If I had the garage space and money, I would keep the car, but I simply don't have the room. I need to reduce the amount of vehicles I have. Someone come get it before I change my mind and finish the car and start driving it. I have 5 cars, a truck, and a bass boat, so as you can see, something needs to go. Let me know if you need any other pictures or info. Thanks.

Just wanted to update.

I had the car out last night. After sitting untouched for about 4 months, the car started right up. Let it sit and idle for a couple minutes, drove it up and down the street, it boosted fine, no problems. I had to put the battery on the charger to get it started, so it may need a battery at some point. I'm not sure how long it has been in the car but I'm guessing at least 4 years or more.

I looked at the driver's side frame rail a little closer. It has some surface rust on it but I don't think it is soft. When I bought the car the master cylinder leaked all the brake fluid down the frame rail and after sitting like that for a while it must have gotten under the paint. The soft spot I felt was undercoating with a little bit of surface rust attached to it that was flaking off.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions.

Brett
