Finally, Calm Got pissed

Hey guys long time since I posted any information. I've been stocking the site every now and then but have basically everything I need to get my Conquest (Named Calm) back together. I just haven't had any time to work on the car since its at my friends house and I have work and school. BUT I finally got some time to get work done on my Conquest. Since I haven't actually made any threads I'll re post my old ones... Which took me a while to find.

So anyway Here's some updated pictures.

Got my hands on a complet Grill AND turns (Member from here but I can't find the messages to shout him out Thanks man.

Then after Some of the basic run through to make sure the car is in good shape and the engine is healthy (Compression test, Check plugs, Oil change, Got rid of two year ol fuel blah blah blah) Finally got to replace the turbo. Which by the way wasn't in bad shape, it just wasn't bolted on. Neither was the Downpipe, or the wastegate, and the turbo itself was missing bolts BUT!

I finally got the HX35 on as you guys can see. Bolted right to the flange easier then we thought actually. The turbo was maybe $350-$500 and everything else came with/on/in the car. We found out the exhaust system is being held up by bailing wire or something like that. The muffler on the back end is a truck muffler so that's going eventually.

We got the car on a decent tune but when we first started it for some reason the pump would stay on in the acc position but when the ignition would turn to start the pump woul only stay on for a few seconds. We couldn't figure it out. So we cut some corners... Or wires. We cut the main power to the pump and basically stuck it in the battery (which is in the trunk which I'm sure everybody noticed) and BOOM instant running car. This is just a temp fix to get the car moving... and my lord this car can M.O.V.E. It actually scared the hell out of me the first time I kinda got on it. I tried babying the transmission since the car sat for so long But the car refused once boost came on.

Without the powersteering it feels like the car is ice skating across the road and the suspension is blown to kingdomcom but I have D2's (Thanks NikoFab) waiting to go on. I also have the front airdam (Quickconq is da man) but i we haven't got a chance to get it installed. I still want to do a 240 rack swap but I just need to finish getting the car were it needs to be.

Unfortunatly The transmission went out. The person I got the car from (Captin!) told me the 1st and 2nd sencros were going bad which was the main reason why I tried babying the car but I guess they were farther gone then he had thought. Now I'm doing research for a stronger transmission.

I want a RX7 tranny and even seen a few for sell on here but the rx7 trannies are too long. I don't want to have to chop up or destroy the interior of the car so I'm looking for other options. I'm looking into the miatas since I've read on here that some RX7 people run them instead. And I've heard alot of good things about the Borg Warner t5's But there's no damn information about them. At least info that I can use.

The gear ratio of the rx7 and the starion are pretty close. The diff makes all the difference

Don't even try mx-5 box.It is very weak probably even weaker than our boxes.

Miata people use rx7 boxes not the other way round and i don't think that a t5 will fit under our tunnel without serious masazing to say the least.

My best guess is that there is tunnel cutting envolved and by what you write thats not going to happen using the stock interior

Thank you so much for the info. I couldn't anything on it but it make sense why now. I just gotta figure out how people get the rx7 tranny to fit in our cars without destroying the interior. Project 0 doesn't really mention anything besides its 6 inches farther back.

Search AUSTARION...

The 7 box that is used is the fc's s4 and you just cut the shifter housing and you shorten it by about 40mm and its quite easy to do.

Otherwise you can use the shifter tail from the b2600 if you can find one.

Everything fits after that

That's exactly what I was wondering if it was possible. I couldn't tell if the tails were interchangeable but it looked like they were. I just sourced a b2600 transmission and was going to have them send it to me but now I just might ask if they can send me the bellhousing and the tail housing and then get a low milage rx7 tranny from a jdm importer. I don't think the gearing for the b2600 is all that great other wise I would have just got that transmission

actually, i must correct you as i have had a rx7 and miata. there are some rx7 runners that run mx5 transmissions as the gearing works out alot better for the rotary power band

on a side note, neighter trans is that strong, however the rx7 trans is alot better at shifting at high rpms

Thanks for letting me know. The RX7 trans I found was recently rebuilt less then 10,000 miles ago with stronger gears says the owner. Worst case senario I'm going to have a completed b2600 trans so if the rx7 trans blows I'm going to drop in the truck trans till I get the rx7 trans rebuilt lol. Edited by AshyBone

Nothing is making me think a T5 won't fit. I actually saw a Miata T5 transmission this weekend at a friends house. The thing is pretty damn tiny. I just don't think it will be able to handle the torque a hx35 powered 2.6 will put out. And I've been thinking about putting the airdam on but I gotta swap out the intercooler. The one that's actually on Calm has a massive hole in the front. There's a member on this site that had a TII tranny with the right bellhousing on it but that was back in September. I wanna check with him if he still has it before I put the money down on a rx7 tranny then hunt down the right year b2600 tranny to swap out the bell and tail housing.

.... Hu.... Wish I knew that a while ago. I came across a few T5's and turned them down because of a lack of knowledge lol. Oh well. I have everything figured out now. I have someone on the RX7 forum selling me a 94 TII with 60k mile on it for 650. I also found a 1987 b2600 trans with "low miles" that is going to be shipped to my door for 697. All in all I'm paying $1300 for on transmission. But if the rx7 tranny blows I can put the truck tranny in till I get the RX7 rebuilt. I also don't have to worry bout cutting anything since the tailhousing on the b2600 tranny puts the shifter in stock location. The other option would be if MainstreaM logged on and answered my pm's. He had a rx7 tranny with the b2600 bellhousing for sale last year. I talked to him about it back in September but turned down getting it because I though I could get it for cheaper... He was asking $600.... Stupid me.

WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!

Update -

MainstreaM got back in touch with me and still has the B2600 mated tranny. Will be buying that today. Trying to find the video over on the RX7 forum that shows how to shorten the tailhousing but not finding it annoyingly. I found this old thread on here with some helpful info if anyone is interested.

***EDIT***

Still Looking for the stupid video but this thread might help anyone else interested in a RX7 Transmission Swap.
