My 88 conquest  has factory mechanical ( arm lever)wastegate . Over the last 30 years who knows how many times itís been played around with  how do u adjust the wastegate to get best setting and how can u tell if itís even working at all.

I know there is lots of info on here about adjusting it. Just do a search and I'm sure you'll find it. The basic idea is to loosen the nut on the arm, adjust it so its loose fully, then adjust the arm until it just tensions the flapper, then use the lock nut to secure the end. As for testing your wastegate you can use a compressor with low psi to ensure your wastegate arm moves as it should.

if you have a good quality boost gauge then stock it should be holding at 10 psi if 88 89. 7 psi for 87 and older.

that's with no boost controller just stock setup. if high loosen a half turn and try until you get the stock boost setting on the gauge. or tighten if low boost.

That should get you in the ball park.
