Starting a new thread for my 4g63 swap. Always wanted a 4g63 starquest ever since I started going
to the DSM shootout in Norwalk. Finally acquired enough parts, tools and space to do it.

Six bolt narrow block.

W58 transmission from second gen supra with Bill's adapter.

Engine and trans mated together.

Slipping it in.

Bolted to the cross member.

The w58 must be a bit shorter than our trans coupled with not wanting to cut the firewall means the shifter housing will need to be modified to hit the original opening.

I'm not too sure I tried doing homework to figure that out but you'd have to know where the engine sits, bell housing length and dimensions of the transmission.

I thought Bill made sure the trans shifter would line up.

Bill can't 'know' which of the few options anyone will chose, to deal with water plumbing and cam sensor at the back of the head
some motors sit in stock location, others position it foward ~3 inches or so

I knew the shifter wouldn't line up with the w58 option. I've seen bill do some custom shifter relocations. I didn't ask him to do it. I did want him to do the mounts because he has a jig and makes sure everything is aligned.

Nice build.  Looking forward to following this as I've considered down a 4G63 swap myself.

Is that coolant pipe just laying there in the pic above, or did you figure out a way to route it over the top of the manifold?

Yeah I was just playing around with it. The 4g37 thermostat housing is the one to use if you want to go that route. But something about running all the  coolant pipes around a hot exhaust manifold makes me uneasy.I think what I'm going to do is either make a pipe or use an fittings.

So I started working on the turbo side of the engine.

Posted Image

The turbo is a emusa 16g it came with the engine. I had clocked the compressor side in a way that I thought would work but it would have brought the intercooler pipes way high in the engine bay and I didn't like the look. The down pipe side also doesn't work it seems to hit the frame rail with the flange that connects to the b pipe of the exhaust. Considering those two thing I decided to convert it to external waste gate.

The flapper that needs to get removed.
Posted Image

Cut the actuator arm.
Posted Image

Cut out
Posted Image

Removed
Posted Image

Weld the hole the arm went into
Posted Image

Now I can put it where I want.

Awesome choice on the external wastegate, you'll have much better control over boost. The car is looking good man. Keep up the good work! I'll be driving out to see you soon.

1987 Flatty Starion -- Widebody Conversion -- V-Mount Setup --  JDL Tubular Manifold  --  MX-6 Intake -- MS3-Pro -- AEM FPR  --  ARP head studs -- 3" hood exit exhaust -- Hahn Racecraft 16g --  Tial F38 Wastegate -- Tial Q Bov -- Short route piping -- 5 lug & LSD conversion -- Tubular Front End -- Manual Steering Rack Conversion -- Manual Brake Conversion -- Stack Digital Dash -- AEM UEGO -- D2 coilovers -- full GNT poly bushings & mounts -- four 8" rears -- car lightened significantly...  More to come!

vast majority of DSM turbos control boost fine, internally gated + MBC.... right up to & past 20G. Porting & correct actuator
External only adds complexity/plumbing/weight/expense

Many 4g63 rwd swaps run the pipe like that. Second truck sees track duty

Worked on some ic pipe this weekend. I put oil cooler behind bracket due to larger intercooler. Also playing around with building a box for my intake. It still needs more work.
