okay so i just worked on my quest and i took off my throttle body only to find that the two vacuum ports on the manifold were weled shut. the passages that i speak of are under the throttle body but on top of the intake manifold surface that mounts to the tb. what are these for and what happens if they are plugged??

I think I am having the same or a similar problem.

When I start the car unless I hold the throttle at 1500RPM or above for a good 5 minutes the car wants to die. Once it's warmed up it seems to run just fine. Any advice would be appreciated!

Coolant temp sensor. One pointing straight up. It talks to the ecu so that the ECU knows how much fuel to send. There is a test you can perform on it w hot water and multimeter on cold water/coolant it should read around 2200 ohms and starts to drop slowly down to around 300 ish or so when water/coolant is at full temp around 185 deg or so. If it doesn't read right or wiring from it to the ecu is bad =issues.
It acts like choke to add extra fuel to start the car adding extra fuel.Unlike carburated engine that closes choke. It squirts extra fuel in to keep it running when needed and adds less fuel as car warms up. You need lots of fuel on startup when car is cold or slightly warm. If sensor is off on reading and not in proper range at certain temp your ecu is confused.

I had a similar issue and also thought it was a bad CTS.  Before swapping it out I decided to try a known working set of injectors from my dads 88 and car went back to running fine again, idle and all.  But I had same issue you are having where it wouldnt run correctly until it was warm.

put your finger on the end of the idle air control motor.
should be able to feel it running the end in or out.
if its not working till engine warm or closed loop then that would be a problem.
also 86 tbi dont have the idle adj. screw like the 87 and newer have. maybe something needed if you have changed the injector sizes.

ebay has a wet fuel pressure gauge for dsm eclipse....the kit comes with a banjo bolt.
if you take the top of your fuel filter banjo off this guage will bolt right on. i have a few and love them very handy. somewhere less than $50 is what i paid

even if your fuel pump has enough pressure to start the car it may not have enough to run drive. you can easily verify this by reving the engine and watching the pressure drop. pressure should stay at 35 even after reving into a little booost.
