CXracing Starion intercooler

Recommended Posts

It is a copy of the KD M with 2.5 pipes vs the 2.25 the *DM inter coolers came with. Cx racing may well have made the inter coolers for *DM. It will fit, bolt in and support 400 hp. Some custom pipe fabrication will be required.

For a person who has the full *DM hard pipe kit with a modified stock inter cooler this would be nearly plug and play. I say nearly, because the *DM pipes are 2.25 and they put 2.5 on the intercooler and there is little room for an adapter.

It is well suited for a tbi guys that wants to minimize the cutting and hacking.

The mpi guys typically choose bigger, for a little less money and are looking at making all new pipes any way.

So 2.5" intercooler piping is not overkill for a tbi car?

In my opinion it is over kill.

Most tbi cars are limited by the bolt on turbos upgrades the guys like to run and the limitations of tuning the stock fuel system. Since an air flow meter and stock tb inlet are typically retained it is harder to fit 2.5 pipe vs 2.25 then it is on a mpi. So why beat your head against the wall to use 2.5 if the 05/05h turbine is plugging the exhaust and the owner is unwilling to spend the time and dollars it takes to learn how to make the stock ecu work past 240 hp.

The stock inter cooler sucks. this is a nice up grade, but 2.25 nipples on it would have made it easier to install on a tbi car. But then it would not have appealed to the mpi guys, but like a said they would want bigger any way.

I think CX may be wrong stating in their ad that the inlet/outlet pipes are 2.5'' in diameter . They were 2.25 when *DM had them made , 2.5'' is as Starquestresque stated 'overkill', maybe someone who bought one from CX can verify ? Edited by SOTTY
