This was just announced last week, pretty cool: https://www.tremec.com/menu.php?m=183. It's rated for 600 ft*lb, 7500 RPM shifting, and designed to fit narrow tunnels. Looks like it would be the solution for anyone doing a swap who wants to make some power but doesn't want to cut up the floor.

The only downside is that it's $2,800, so it costs more than most SQs are worth at this point: https://www.moderndr...ons/tkx/gm-tkx/

$2800 isn't that bad. I've been pricing out used T56 transmissions for my LS swap project. Most of them are 1500-2000.
This is an option I'll be looking into for sure!

Yeah, a new T5Z still goes for $2,300, so from that perspective, an extra $500 for almost twice the torque rating and better shifting is a solid deal. No guarantee it fits in a quest until somebody tries it, but the fact that it's specifically designed to be more compact than a TKO to fit narrower tunnels is encouraging.

I agree. I'm sure there would still be clearance issues with the bell housing, but if there's a way to not cut out the entire tunnel that would be great!

seems like a reasonable option. Doesn't *look* much bigger than a T5. I'd think they could furnish exact dimensions
Bellhousing shouldn't be an issue as the box is not that big at the mating surface
Any setup warranting a 600 ft-lb box is already gonna be in dollar deep, so 'typical' SQ low resale value is irrelevant
Then there is a suitable clutch to match
For frequent dragstrip use, auto tranny most likely the better option
