88starchris
I'm going attempt to rebuild my engine! I've purchased a bsek, full gasket set, head bolts, water pump, fuel injectors, wires, plugs, coil, cap, rotor button, rod bearings, and all hoses and belts. Anything else I really need to get while I have the engine out and apart?
freebird
if your getting a head gasket. You might as well get the best one felpro made for our car.get the felpro hs9116pt gasket kit. there is a difference in water pumps through the years.even though you have an 88 your engine could be from an 86.They make a better pump blade design too....I think it was a bosh.....(Just something else to research.) Be sure to go through the thottle body...replace all seals and gaskets. Might as well look at the brake master cylinder...probly leaking. get a die grinder and port the manifold....cheap easy work makes horse power! Delete the abs module? Go through the turbo water lines clean the holes in the banjo bolts....replace copper washers. Replace the oem oil feed line with a SS line.....at least unhook it from the exhaust manifold....I dont know why Mitsubishi wanted to heat the oil before it goes in the turbo.....after a while im sure it just boils in that spot....where the flange wraps the oil line and bolts to that hot mani. New clutch?Lighten flywheel? Egr delete? Make some hard pipes? Non jet head? New lifters(mechanical adjusters) Vacuum advance working properly? Just a few things I would look into. tsi_tom
Hi, Since it sound like you spun a bearing from previous posts you need to check the rods and crank at a machine shop. I also tried to replace just the bad bearing and the engine began to knock again. Also you oil cooler, oil cooler lines, and turbo have to be flushed of the bearing material that has circulated. This is what my oil cooler looked like blowing compressed air through it:http://www.starquest...howtopic=137174 I would buy the hasting rings from http://www.enginemac...istons.php The one I purchased didn't need to be filed. I also you will need an oil tube pickup oring. You can reuse your head bolts. Also be very careful of the oil pump gasket. I would only buy the Mitsubishi. It has the tear drop shape in it:http://www.enginemachineservice.com/ems/images/parts/conquest/gaskets/oil%20gasket.jpg Double check these part number but this is what I was writing down for my next motor build: 265 Cylinder Head EMS25.99 Valve Springs EMS14.99 Freeze out plugs Summit40 Main Bearings EMS25 Rod Bearings EMS48.99 Hastings Piston Rings EMS16 Balance Shaft EMS29.97 Head Gasket Summit126.98 Timing Kit EMS0.19 (8) MF660034 oil squirter copper gaskets mitsparts.net1.51 MF520015 oil filter bracket o-ring 22 mm mitsparts.net8.03 MF520588 oil filter bracket o-ring 60 mm mitsparts.net4.23 valve cover gasket with semi circular plug RA0.3 valve cover grommet RA9.51 oil pan gasket 0340489 RA1.12 MD075834 O-RINGENG OIL FILLER mitsparts.net4.28 MD183244 GASKET,Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Case mitsparts.net25.1 MD343564 OIL SEAL Crankshaft Rear mitsparts.net8.84 timing cover gasket kit RA oil pickup gasket 4.3 (2) 2.15 head dowls MS471111 BUSHINGCYLINDER BLOCK mitsparts.net10.6 MD020239 Balance shaft cover gasker GASKETCOVER mitsparts.net225 clutch set Clutchcity.com10.5 MD102683 Exhaust manifold gasket mitsparts.net41.28 MD614116 rebuild kit for throttle body mitsparts.net11.06 MD191364 Intake manifold gasket mitsparts.net6.65 MD041334 Turbo gasket GASKET B mitsparts.net3.41 MD041333 Turbo gasket GASKET A mitsparts.net65.79 Water pump ACDELCO Part # 252184 RA2.31 MD021045 O-RING BALANCER mitsparts.net1036.93 Check out my restoration project: http://www.starquest...howtopic=135264 Edited March 31, 2015 by tsi_tom
