this was a box requested by a member and I just about have it finished up, it needs just a little more "final touches" before its complete but its 95% finished. I really like the idea he had on how he wanted the speakers mounted and so far given a small sound test in the shop it sounds really good.

of course life for the box starts off as a blank canvas.
Posted Image

then it gets cut down into the pieces we need.
Posted Image

I kind of forgot to take pics as I was putting it together but here is the basic shape of the box.
Posted Image

here it is test fitted in the flatty.
Posted Image

the box is designed to aim the speakers right at the back glass so it will bounce the sound off the glass.
Posted Image

almost completed, the paint needs to dry overnight and I will do another test fit and get some more pics of it in the flatty.

I do take requests if you would like one built and it will be custom built to fit in the quest. this one is made for two 8" subs and this specific one is more designed for Rock and Roll type music as opposed to the normal super boomy bass boxes I normally build. this one is at the minimum space I could use to have it ported and its tuned at 50hz so it will have a nice tight sound to it instead of the deeper boomy sound. the port will just allow the box to produce more sound but wont take away from the tight sounding bass.

nice ;)

so I should be expecting your order soon for olive then?........lol. you will get to see how it fits in your car since I believe you will be bringing it back from PF.

I really like the design of paul's box and was thinking of building a similar one to hold just the single 12" American bass sub.

Olive has a box with a single 12, but i never did hook up the system  so i just listen to the two 2.5" speakers coming from the rear bumper area

if i keep Toby i'd want a box and run an ipod hooked to a hidden amp with speakers in the factory locations for that stock look  ;)

that's should be simple enough, they have amps that have Bluetooth built into them so you can stream music from your phone or tablet.

here is a 6 channel amp that could run 4 door speakers and 2 subs, or single sub or whatever. $160

I am gonna assume your 12" box doesn't fit under the hatch cover, you got any pics of it?

I was thinking I might be able to do a 12 in a box similar to pauls box but I the magnet on the back of the sub might be too deep. now if I used a shallow mount sub there wouldn't be any problem and they have some amazing sounding shallow mount subs.

I took the single 12" sub box out of my Ford Escape to see how it would fit in the quest....lol. and the hatch wont close with it in there so I would for sure need to angle the box like pauls.

Any way to make a small box to fit where the Jack stuff goes on the passenger side of the hatch? I wanna drop to an 8 from a 12 to get more storage space in the back.

for a 8" sub the box has to be at least 10" tall because of the thickness of the top and bottom pieces of wood that make the box. here is the box I built for my 87 with a single 8" sub and you can see there is just enough room at 10" tall for the sub to fit. this box and pauls box are 14" deep from the back of the seat.
Posted Image

if I angled the back of the box to match the angle of the back seat it would sit back about 3 inches farther then mine and pauls. I could make the box so that it only sticks out 6" from the top of the back seat and about 9 1/2" from the bottom of the rear seat. that would make the box stick out about 1" past where the rear trim pieces around the strut towers start to angle.

I will draw up a sketch of what I am talking about so its more clear.

ok here is a rough idea of what I am talking about. this box would have about .76cf of airspace so it would have enough airspace for a single 8" and could still be ported. but you would need to use a Shallow Mount subwoofer.
Posted Image

here are two Skar Audio 8" subs, the one on the left is a shallow mount and has a 4" mounting depth, the one on the right has a 6" mounting depth. the shallow mount would fit fine but the regular 8" sub would hit the back of the box.
Posted Image

there may be a way that I could build a box to fit in the area off to the side but you would need to use a 6.5" subwoofer. and I know your thinking are you nuts.....lol. but believe me they make some really nice 6.5 subs that sound really good. as for airspace it would need to be a sealed box if its that small.

here is the Skar Audio 6.5 sub.
https://www.skaraudi...ant=18454532865

and here is one made by American Bass.

Skar Audio and American Bass are two of my favorite companies for subwoofers, and MB Quart is my favorite company for amplifiers.

ok looking at the specs for the 6.5 Skar Audio sub I need a minimum of .25cf of airspace for a sealed box.

after measuring the space to the side in the hatch where the jack is this is what I have come up with. I have to break the box down into three parts to figure the cubic feet, and the three spaces equal up to .456cf but that is not taking into account for the thickness of the wood. so once we take that into account that brings us down to .284cf which gives me just enough airspace for the  6.5 subwoofer.
Posted Image

the box would need to be 7" deep and the strut tower in the rear sticks out 5" so it would stick out 2" past where the strut tower trim piece angles in.so using the other drawing I used to show where the other box would be I added in where this side panel box would sit and stick out.
