A friend of mine used Uship.com when he moved. They transported 2 vehicles for him quickly and without issue. It's basically a site where you post up what you are shipping, where it is and it's destination. Then people and/or companies will bid for your business.

Four cars. How far you transporting? Even if it's just a few hundred miles, it maybe upwards in the same price range as buying a big trailer. Though, three car hauler doesn't it require a commercial license?

Hauling from Va to Wyoming, bout 1850 miles.

I've got one quote so far of around 4000.

I wouldn't think I need a commericial licence, people pull campers the same length.

I could be wrong though.

I was hoping you would chime in, I remember you being a tow truck driver. I've been looking at two car trailers and let the wife drive the WRX and follow.

Crunch the numbers, do a cost comparison, transporting at 4 thousand vs buying a trailer and the cost of fuel for both cars you plan on driving, plus food and lodging. I don't imagine you making that trip in one haul so you'll need an over night somewhere.

The other thing is that it will be a long drive for your wife and your self, by your selves. So it's also a comfort factor to keep in mind, you wont have your wife sitting next to you the whole the drive.

4 thousand is a good price for the distance your sending them. Also, looks like they charged you a flat rate for all cars, they usually charge more for trucks as they take up more space and are heavier, they need to keep the haul at a certain weight.

I would avoid the transport companies that bid on your job. They may all be liscensed and insured, but that doesn't mean that they are all good and will take excellent care of your vehicles. If you do go that route, don't take the lowest bid... those are usually people who are kinda desperate for the work, and probably aren't the best man for the job. Watch "Shipping Wars" a few times, and you'll see what I mean.

This may also hold some truth. In my business, I'm not the cheapest guy around. But my customers are fine with that as they know I do something alot of companies are not willing to do, look out for their best interest.

when i hauled my 2 cars from NY to Ohio i used http://www.montway.com/ ...they are a broker which means haulers bid on ur transport.....i chose them because they by far had the best reviews.

They had their minor issues tho. Poor communication in my opinion. But the pickup and deliveries were on time. they were the most expensive of the companies i was quoted.....but a reliable and positive reputation is more important than a couple hundred $ when it comes to my cars

I know there is a company called Reliable Transport that uses all orange trucks, and I believe use fully enclosed trailers. They are the "official car transport" of the Barrett-Jackson auto auctions, and those guys only vouch for the best companies. I'm sure they're nowhere near the cheapest, but you may get a better deal for a quantity of cars.

I figure if they're good enough to ship multi-million dollar cars, then they have to be good enough to haul our hoopties.

Oh, and I personally would rather pay more money and not have to do it myself. It was hard enough for me to haul my old Conquest from MI to GA, then bring my Starion from TX to GA. Driving in the mountains sucked, other idiots nearly wrecked us 3 or 4 times, and it was just more stress driving a truck and trailer than a car. And that was shipping one carat a time on a single place trailer. No way in hell I'd even consider driving a 3 place trailer unless I had A LOT more trailer pulling experience. Hell, I don't think I'd even want to pull one car again those many miles without a little more experience. If pulling trailers doesn't bother you at all, then maybe do it, but moving is stressfull enough without all that extra stuff. It may be worth the extra loot to have the piece of mind, and also have a simple drive out without the drama of a trailer.

Whatever you choose, best of luck to you in your new location!

Pulling a trailier isn't so hard, just go slow and safe and take your time.

If you do get a two car trailer, you will have something to bring home more SQ's!! Think about all the hoarding you can do...

I see "Wangoneers" out on the highway all the time. Enclosed car hauling big rigs.

Also, in 1985 when I was a kid, my family moved from south FL to north AL. They put my Mom's new Cadilac Seville in

the belly of the Allied Van Lines trailer and put a flase floor above it and packed house hold stuff above it.

We used reliable and united van lines when we moved. Very good very professional. GM always uses reliable when we move our show cars, even full size clay models, which are much more delicate than a real car. I'm sure it's not cheap.

You won't need a CDL unless the gvw (gross vehicle weight) of the truck and trailer exceed 26,000#, I have been hauling oversize loads for over 20 years and have seen combinations of a pickup and trailer that does require a CDL. Add the weights on the door tag of the truck and trailer tag to get your gvw.

Unfortunately, I'm forced to agree with Mark to an extent. The first time I used a transport company, they worked out great. The second time I used one, the car showed up five days later than promised, there was damage to the vehicle, and they tacked on a bunch of fees to the original bid. I had to call out the constable's office to get it resolved.

Anyway, since then I've always hauled them myself or had my brother do it (when he was doing that kind of work). But if you can find somebody like louswheel who you know (or who somebody you know knows), then that's the way to go. That's a loooooooong haul!

Perry, you're an experienced hauler for sure, & I'm sure you could handle the the (3) car rigg; even though that's Alot of trailer. Were you trade'n up to the (3) car, or also keep'n your other trailer? That's a nice size trailer, & definitely has been put to good use! That is a long trip for sure dude! Congrats on the upcoming change for y'all, & I'm sure you'll make the best decision regarding the transport move. Good luck, & be careful my friend! ;)

Well decided to get me a 28ft enclosed trailer.

After calling moving companies and car haulers its just about as cheap to buy a trailer and haul it all myself.

The first trip will be all the house hold things.

Next load will be both cars. I will have to pull the bumpers and airdamns off to fit.

I put them front bumper to front bumper and got 29' so need to shorten them a foot.

Hope that will do it.

1800 mile trip one way.

I'm leaving in the morning to go back to Wyoming to work for a week to see how it works out.

Thanks for all the advice.

Thanks Robert.

Still kinda nervous about all this.

Just in search of better jobs.

And it will be cool to check out the west side for a change.
