CXracing Starion intercooler

Recommended Posts

I think CX may be wrong stating in their ad that the inlet/outlet pipes are 2.5'' in diameter . They were 2.25 when *DM had them made , 2.5'' is as Starquestresque stated 'overkill', maybe someone who bought one from CX can verify ?

My bigger CXRacing IC stated 2.5" which it was. You can also hack your stocker & have bigger endcaps put on - as pictured here with 2.25" ends coupled up. Gain to CX is the 4" & bar/plate which flows much better. Go for it if other mods support the need.

For TBI, 2.5" is not needed unless there is a chance that you'll go MPI and keep the IC. As said above, new 2.5" pipes would then be needed. Now any SQ not running full 40psi+ race only applications using 3" pipes is certainly overkill and it happens unfortunately.

Look at the TB. Stock maxes out at 52mm, which is just around 2" ID. 2.25" pipes offer higher flow, with less resistance while not pushing even more volume per pipe than already oversupplying. You'll get fastest spool with 2.25 > 2.5". Get adapter couplers and roll with this IC no problem.

CXRacing ICs are good construction and not some thin China crap. Chinese built, surely at their prices, but very good pieces > overpriced domestic ICs.

*EDIT* Mine pictured HERE is an OLDER NON-SQ IC that I bought BEFORE the above posting was made available. Sorry for the confusion of my pic. I'm glad to see CRX add stock mounts for these!! It's an awesome piece at a great price vs. other "name-brand" ICs.

Core is 4" thick, the inlet/outlet are 2" ID and 2.25" OD if you count the bead. Welds look very nice, I'm happy with my purchase.

I think SOTTY was gauging interest in hard pipe kits. Or CXRacing might get K D M's measurements and make their own.

I had two TBi hardpipe 5 piece kits made a few months back using a *DM kit as a template , i really don't see a market big enough for these , Ive had the 'template' set for sale for two weeks now with no takers for 160 bucks , so i don't see the point of continuing with this idea . Edited by SOTTY

i doubt CX will do a hard pipe kit , these cars are not Honda's ,Evo's,Supras or WRX's meaning markets with owners actually willing to spend dough ,the only way to do these would to have these made in China or Taiwan ,there is just not enough of these cars left to do a production run I.m.o

  • 1 month later...

No mounting tabs on the sides?

See my EDIT above. My pic was before they offered this "SQ IC". Had to fab up mounts then.

So we have now confirmed the inlet/outlet pipes are indeed 2.25 inch in diameter and not 2.5 inch as CX states in their ad and why the hard pipes Kay.d.m produced where also 2.25 inch .

Well that kinda sucks. 2.5 would be perfect and the extra .25 would not be bad spool reducing overkill if not quite up to that need for most mid-range turbos wanting this IC.
